I know not a perfect list--most likely needs a Spartan and or some drop pods- at 2.5k+ it adds a Spartan and more rhino based squads. My dreadclaws are on the list to assemble and build...but also can only fit 5 gal vorbak in them so.....

2k list:
HQ:- Dark Brethren right of war
1x Praetor- w/artificer armor, tainted weapon, paragon blade, volkite charger, melta bombs, iron halo, digital lasers, burning lore
1x legion centurion-Consul-Diabolist- w/artificer armor, tainted weapon, lightning claw, jump pack, volkite charger, melta bombs, burning lore
1x Legion centurion- Consul- Chaplain- w/artificer armor, refractor field, tainted weapon, lightning claw, volkite charger, melta bombs, burning lore

Troops:
1x 10 marine squad+ CCW- SGT- artificer armor, power axe, combi-plasma
-Rhino- +Heavy Bolter
1x 10 marine squad+CCW- SGT- same as above
-Rhino- no upgrades

Elites:

1x 8 Gal Vorbak Dark Brethren- x1 melta gun, Martyr w/ artificer Armor, tainted wpn, melta bombs
2x Mhara Gal tainted dreadnoughts- stock equipment

Basic theory craft is the gal and character run forward as a deathstar using run movement and psyker powers from Bio/demon saves+ multi wound models to get to CC. Rhinos support with both tactical squads while the dreadnoughts stay on the flanks and close in using plasma on anything at range. If I see a STR 10 template wpn deep strike the gal vorbak and the characters go it alone basically aside from the jump pack.

Not perfect but wanted to stick with as much WB specific as possible for initial 2k- also already have all of this painted aside from the Gal Vorbak which are currently on my painting table.

Think it should still be fluffy and pretty tough to take on esp if one of my Bio powers on the 3 HQs is the one that gives FNP...other option is drop the jump pack and heavy bolter and make one a primus medicae....but with 3 bio rolls I figure I have a decent shot at one of the 3 getting it....also the jump pack allows one of the characters to break off and assault a squad by himself with a fair amount of attacks.

updated list to add diabolist for Right of war

If you play against Loyalist Marines, you might want to consider using the Dark Brethren Rite of War with this army list. IIRC, since you have <2 HS slots, all you'd have to do to qualify is change your Chaplain to a Diablost (or upgrade your basic Centurion to a Diabolist and cut the points from somewhere else). Just a thought. Preferred Enenemy (Loyalist Marines) is obviously pretty brutal against Loyalist Marines, and in a Gal VOrbak squad would be just wrong (and by that, I mean 'oh so right'). Re-rolling 1's to hit and wound on 5 rending attacks/man on a charge is pretty viscious.

good call on the rite of war and should easily be able to put diabolist on the centurion with the jump pack as I get points back by dropping the refractor field since he picks up a demon save anyway for invul.

these guys need a ride of some sort. Spartan you mentioned would work

For the 2.5k I add a spartan.

For the 2k they go on foot or deep strike.

Only other option would be to drop a dreadnought and a couple of the gal vorbak to add the Spartan in 2k

So played this twice this last weekend against my buddies salamanders did some big changes for a 3k game as honestly the dreadnoughts sucks for their points. Really piss poor job of pointing on FW part. For that many points they need changed to a wounds/toughness based model so melta doesn't one shot them at close range.

Anyway game one the gal vorbak cleaned house but the dreads failed to do anything worthwhile but die so I lost the game as it was effectively a waste of 600 pts in a 2k game

Game 2 no dreadnoughts and went to 3k so instead of the dreads brought a storm eagle and medusa and another small squad and a 1k demon allied force to make 3k points this worked really well much better without crappy over pointed demon dreadnoughts

Also FW really needs to work on actually balancing the legion special abilities as WB specials and RoW are pathetic compared to salamanders for balance effects.

Just my 2 cents from finally getting the army on the table- bring gal vorbak demon infantry don't bother with the dreadnoughts

IMO spartans are overrated and you should look at some other things before defaulting to a stupidly expensive land raider holding a stupidly expensive squad Other then that, it's not that bad.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I disagree, if only because the Spartan really is hard to kill for most lists. If you don't have mass MeltaBombs or Gravguns, which most people usually do not have, it is basically unkillable.

I agree, I've never been too fond of dreadnoughts, especially in 30k. There's too many ways to take them down, not to mention it is easy to do. They also never kill enough to make points back or even simply keep themselves alive. I would only kit them out with 2 CCW because their ranged output I pretty bad imo.

Ye classic dreads are always a bit disapointing for their cost. Though Deredo and Leviathan can be super effetive but let's be honest, they don't play in the same category ^^(and don't forget the BA dread with double chainfists and double assault canon )

Concerning the WB dread, for sure it's really overpriced... It can only shine in zone mortalis games with the move through walls ability. Apart from that I won't recommend it from a competitive POV, that's too bad cause the model looks awesome.

be quite with your 'dreadnoughts are dumb' talk, they do things that contemptors only dream of! More access to weapons (namely the wonderful flamestorm cannon), lesser point costs, and the fact that they are ignored by quite a few people means that they can do quite a lot. And again, to point out that 30k is about what you like the look of rather then what is the single most effective means they actually have a place in 30k.

@swampmist There's little need to kill it once the ~700 point cost deathstar jumps out of their 400 point transport, meaning that half of their total cost is in a 1 trick pony. + if you shoot it from the side (not the front) it's just another land raider.

With more hullpoints and better guns . Though. i do agree on the Dreads point. Podding flamestorm cannons feel like sweet, sweet fiery justice even when NOT playing sallies or DeathGuard
