Hey all,

I am starting up a Necorn army to get me into having a few more games..

I want to do a progress log to show people what I am doing and to also look for tips and help motivate me to paint more.

I've started off with a Catacomb Command Barge. I am painting just to get an army on the table but with HQ units I wanted to spend a bit of time really pimping them out so people would really notice the main threats.

I'm going with a digital-matrix themed army. I wanted it to look very code-esque and also quite venomous. Green is usually a toxic looking color which suggests "threat" so this is what I am going with. My actual troops will be silver as per normal Necron color scheme but I am going to accent them with green and the odd royal red.

Enjoy. Will update as a go.

(Yes I noticed the mold lines.. ouch.. big rookie mistake!)

These are just a random selection of parts I have just finished the basecoats on. Many details to come.

The flying unit on it's base. Coming together nicely. Only some detailing done like the main front part. Next is to detail entire model with washing/highlights and picking out all the fine cast.

This frontward view really resembled a scorpion. I like it a lot. It's very threatening.

That mold line up the middle is really killing me. I think I'm gonna have to do something about that tonight.

Look forward to updating this blog!

A minor update. Getting more detailing done on my Command Barge tonight. Really loving this model. So sweet!

Check out those greens! So much pop!

That's probably one of the best Necrons schemes I've ever seen. Great work.

Would you guys suggest a little bit of weathering to break it up a bit?

Depends. The clean look really works for the scheme and anything that distracts from the wonderful green to black transitions would be a shame.

What kind of weathering did you have in mind?

How do you get that level of precision when doing the line highlights?

I've found that using a good brush helps, I picked up a windsor and newton brush and that's helped me hugely. It just holds a lot of paint in the bristles and allows me to pain lines for days without having to go back to my pallet. Also water your paints down a bit. It takes a few go-overs but at least it's not thick and pasty looking. Hope this helped.

Okkkkkkaaayyyy. I've added the mud and I'm not sure if I just screwed this model up. But before commenting, I just want to say that the pose I'll be doing this skimmer in will be a very vicious, aggressive pose. It will be cleaning to one side and swooping low so that the Overlord looks like he's leaning out to slash down on his enemies. I was really aiming for a super aggressive, at all lengths we will hunt you down and kill you even if that means hitting the ground and skimming from time to time. Hahaha. This is my first time using typhus corrison and man it's a great technical paint. It's given it a really rough, muddy texture that stuff is amazing.. It's growing on me, the look. I'll keep going and see where I end up.

I wasn't really after the super clean xeno grace look and feel. I wanted these beat up old tomb skeletons to look like they go to any length to destroy and kill their enemies. They are cyborgs not fairies.
