I've put together an Armoured Battle Group List with some allied IG for infantry support. I'm thinking of putting Kurov's Aqila on the IG commander. Does that item affect the ABG units as well?

Does it affect AM units within range? If so it will effect ABG if FW have said they're AM. Faction

Sorry for highjacking the thread a bit, if so: could you also put orders on ABG units?

The rule says it effects, "all friendly units from Codex: Astra Militarum".
My thinking is that the FW books are considered supplements to their respective codicies.

ABG however is from before the rename to AM. And ABG is self contained I thought? Not near my ia1 2nd ed to check.

ABG is considered Imperial Guard, with the exception that they can also take an Allied Detachment from Codex: Imperial Guard.
In my local play group we believed this meant that they are Faction: Astra Militarum with a rule overriding the restriction that Allied Detachments may not be taken from the same Faction.

Astra Militarum also states several times throughout the book that the AM are often called the Imperial guard.
And any time you are using FW you and your opponent need to clarify some house rules on interactions anyways. Case in point: variant DTs; If you wanted an AC armed Chimera in an Emperor's Wrath Artillery battery(as the required DT for the Co. Command Squad) there is no real reason to disallow that(even with fudging the IA costs for an AM rules Chimera that happens to have an AC; and Core GW rules never consider FW rules and units so some of the other variant units not being named as formation units doesn't really matter). But again, these would be house rules so don't expect every opponent to go along with them.
For example my group generally plays with a rule of: if the FW unit says "a unit that can normally take an X transport may take this unit instead"; then that unit will always count-as the specified transport for the formation.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Could you also take an Astra CAD and ABG as an allied detachment?

Yes. Though it is worth noting that you could just put codex units in a ABG detachment or ABG units in a Codex detachment, because the only restriction on detachments is that all units must be from the same Faction, not army list.

Say what? So I could for example take and ABG command tank as an HQ slot in an Astra militarum CAD?
That really opens up a new world of possibilities for me!

Yes - if and only if your local play group interprets the rules to say that ABG and AM are the same Faction. It is not a guarantee RAW, as RAW is incredibly unclear on cross-edition interfacing between armies and supplements.
