I've wanted to give them a try on and off, and I don't know why it took me so long to see this model, but I love the Canoptek Spyders. It's quickly moving up to my favorite model spot. I was considering using part of my tax refund to buy the Start Collecting box, a box of Warriors, and a Canoptek Spyder. That'd give me a basic CAD along with 3 x Canoptek Scarabs (Fast Attack), 1 x Triarch Stalker (Elite), and 1 x Canoptek Spyder (Heavy). Not a very high point value CAD, but it seems like a decent starting place.
Does this sound like a solid idea?
Thanks

Hi,
The Start Collecting! Necrons is an excellent place to start if you want to play Necrons. It has ( IMO) the most over-powered formation for their Start Collecting! set as it means that any unit of warriors or scarabs that die get to come back to life within 3" of the Overlord, OP right? Then, combining that formation with a Spyder and then some more Warriors for fire support is a pretty decent place to start. For a pretty decent price too.
I hope you enjoy the Necrons

You should be able to find a Necron Battleforce for sale on Amazon. The Battleforce along with a Start collecting Box will give you a slid core.

I'll second Claas. If you can find the Necron Battleforce (for a decent price), I'd start there. It was a better value. They try to make it seem like these new Start Collecting sets are better than the old Battleforce boxes, because they have a formation rule. But that's just information, not plastic.
The new Start Collecting box does give you a free Overlord, so there is some added value to be had there (IIRC the Necron Battleforce gave you a free Ghost Ark, for comparison).

I'd start with the Battleforce if possible.
The Triarch Stalker is not what you really need in your army.
