Hey Dakka,

Something that always stuck out to me a bit was the fact that vanilla SM tactical squads cant take heavy flamers as a heavy choice and that their sergeants can't use hand flamers. As a salamanders player it bugs me a bit that BA can use all of them, but Sal's cant. Would it be horribly imbalancing to modify choices so that a SM tac squad can have these options? Not meaning to take away a special thing for BA, maybe trade in the Salamander Master Crafted part of their chapter tactics to allow more/these special flamers. BA does need something special to help set it apart, but the flamer envy is strong

Would that be make things overpowered? Feels like GW really ignored the basis for some chapters on this one

It wouldn't be overpowered, but it would be another reason why the SM codex is way better than the BA one. The salt would be real. Also, they would have to release ANOTHER SM tactical squad, which in turn would have to be more expensive.

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!

First, welcome to Dakka.

Overpowered? No. More powerful then now? Definitely.

While most of the chapters all all lumped together in the vanilla codex, it’s hard to make each one special. They do a reasonable job of capturing the feel of the assorted chapters, but are going to miss a few things. Unless they started adding more asterisks and footnotes to everything with allowances and exceptions.

If you want to modify more flamers into your army, be prepared to make some cuts to keep things balanced. And check with your regular opponents.

While you can’t get them on tac squads, there is plenty of burning available in the codex. So I think you might be able to adhere to the Codex and still incinerate things nicely.

Would also be a yet another massive kick in the teeth to CSM's as well, since Heavy/Hand flamers fit our much more aggressive/assault-heavy play style than it does Vanillas.

I can sympathise somewhat with Sallies, as fire & burning things is one of their main traits, but they do get Heavy flamer Sterns/Termies, while Assault+Assault Cents, Bike, Command squads can really spam the basic Flamer as a means to really get more out of their Chapter Tactics.

SM and CSM should really get Heavy Flamers especially as SOB, GK and Guard all get them in their basic units already.

On a side note, under the current codexes it wouldn't be to hard to fold BA into the Vanilla codex so losing the "uniqueness" of the HF could push them a little closer which GW probably doesn't want (or they would have done it already)
