I'm wrecking my brain in coming up with a starter army for my Mechanicum army.
Something that I can build on towards 1500 and later 2000p.

Either I go with something like
+++ Cybernetica (1000pts) +++

++ Mechanicum: Taghmata Army List (Allied Detachment) ++

+ HQ +

Archmagos Dominus [Augury Scanner, Cyber-familiar, Graviton Gun, Machinator Array, Photon Gauntlet]

+ Troops +

Castellax Class Battle-Automata Maniple [Castellax class Battle-automata, Enhanced Targeting Array]

And with the Reductor I would later add tanks and more Thalax.

Right now I need input on the two army's I posted and if they are somewhat competitive ?

well, first off, It's a good thing 30k isn't competative 9 times out of 10 and the armies that are the 'best' are the ones you enjoy the look and fluff of, amiright?

Beyond that, they are both okay lists, with a lot of room to expand and improve. the biggest flaw of the 1st list, even with the durrability of the castellax you have a grand total of 4 units and 8 models, which is a huge flaw in 30k. Second: plan for around 2,500 since that's where most 30k games take place, MSU is not the best idea in a 30k setting, though beyond these few things, build what you like the fluff and look of, and don't try to power game 30k (since it's the least power-gamey version of a game that doesn't power game well)
