So, out of curiosity, who had a nice night of "Crash Souls III" ?

I gave up after a while, the first bonfire kept fething me and it seems a fix has been "found": Set Lighting to Low. Last night it was "The Knight is the only class that doesn't crash" and it seems people who remove the Knight's helmet just crash

I've played a little bit of the PS4 version now.

Character creation was good, you can put beards on either gender (can't remember if you could do that in DS1 or DS2)

Have only played for about 20 minutes, but very minor spoiler:
Spoiler:
You can totally take the first right, ignore the message saying not to. The enemy is nowhere near being as bad as the ogre at the start of DS2

Spoiler:
That's because it doesn't have a massive bs grab/punch box that's going to hit you despite clearly being too far away.

I should have it delivered within 3 hours.

Once. AH!
Spoiler:

I have died 3 times until I've managed to beat the lizard but the fight was glorious

The first boss has already rekt me 4 times. I can not explain how much I'm hating my scimitars: I just wanted to hit him hard and fast and then run from an answer, but the bloody scimitars don't allow me to. They are dual wielding instead of just grabbing one with 2 hands.

So, in short: haven't even finished the tutorial, 7 deaths so far. But the crashes are the one thing that makes me mad.

Playing the PC version here, never crashed once. Though I didn't get too far-- I have five bonfires lit at the moment-- still getting used to the combat changes. The back-attacks are utterly brutal when early-game I'm used to trying to dodge and get backstabs. Of course, like usual, the game doesn't recognize my dualshock, but the mouse and keyboard controls are pretty easy to get used to.

I wasn't given one, but then again I use Steam.

Actually, you were. Game is already in version 1.03 and the patch was SUPPOSED to fix these crashes but it did solve a ton of performance issues.

Yeah, the crashes aren't happening to everyone, but a decent enough amount of people are affected. The Steam forum thread is already over 100 pages.

As soon as I'm home, I'm trying the Lighting setting to "low" fix.

Well if I was patched, it was so seamless that I didn't even notice

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Started off as Deprived, just to see how far they raised the difficulty.

I was not disappointed. IMO, this game is genuinely harder than DS1 and 2 were, at least at this point in each game.

Did anyone else find it odd that the Knight starts with a pretty fast roll? I'm playing DS1 at the same time, started with the Knight, and just tanked through with the fat roll until I got the RoFP and Havel's Ring.

Medium-rolling is definitely more effective than in previous games. Haven't found armor to test out fatrolling, bearing in mind I played a Destitute character.

I'm on PS4 so I'm not sure if it's the same, but mine was 1.146GB.

Had a little time with it. Initial impressions are very good. Seems with each game they speed things up though. This one feels much more like a twitch hack and slash than the methodical, slower pace of the first game. Not to say it's bad, just different. The game looks beautiful and it oozes atmosphere, more so than DS2 I think. Harkens back to the feel of the original a bit more imho.

Also if you have high graphics, at least on PC, you can FEEL the grittiness and dirtiness and even muddiness of the game, as your moving aroundd, rolling around, attacking, bloodshedding, etc darkens your skin and armor as time goes on between bonfire rests.

Bested boss 3 leaving it there for now.

Broadsword is still doing fine for now.

Also, started as Deprived btw and my god did that first boss punish me for it. The relief I felt once I got a shield with 100% block was unimaginable.

Setting Lighting to Low did it for me. Hell, I was so pumped, I managed to beat the boss on today's first try. Really damn happy.

In another note, I've start watching a DS3 Let's Play, just the parts I already did. I feel cheated with how much damage the Knight does and how much punishment he takes right from the start D; I can't even imagine how much of an hell deprived must be.

Well, I'm terribly confused at whose idea it was to make PC controls like they did for DS1. I'm trying to figure out solutions, but either the DsFix mods I was getting don't work with windows 10 (or some other reason) or I didn't install them correctly.

I'm thinking I'll just find a way to make my PS4 controller linked to my PC and play that way.

Played it yesterday for a bit.
Intro was kinda subpar compared to DS1 and DS2. I always liked the mood they set. Somehow the intro for DS3 did nothing for me.
Started as a Herald, the spear and 100% shield kick ass so far. Crystal Lizard and first boss were a cakewalk.
Had crashes near every bonfire and gave up in Firelink Shrine, will try out the low lighting setting tonight, see if that fixes it.
And then the Katana guy must die!

I'm liking it so far, 60fps feels really smooth. 360 controler has no problems on PC.

I'm digging it so far, didn't get crazy far in, only had time to boot it up, watch the intro, select the Warrior and kill the first two guys, but I'm digging it. I'm sure I'll tear it apart tonight.

I was chatting with my buddy and I have to agree, the combat feels faster than DS1/2. Not unbearable, but it definitely feels like you run and swing faster.

I can really feel the Bloodborne influence on the combat in DS3.

I found out last night that even shields have skills. The Knight's shield has the Parry ability, while the Silver Eagle Kite Shield lets you use your right hand weapon's skill while holding L2, without the need to two hand the weapon. It makes using my weapons skills much easier.

Yeah, the shields that allow you to parry have a tiny "shield" icon on the bottom left. I'm loving this mechanic, certain weapons like the Uchigatana can parry them using the weapon skills (and it looks cool like hell)

Anyone actually use the weapon skills? I read a review that said they were kind of "meh"

Just the warcry ones, the damage if useful to get through first phase of a boss quickly.

That said, I've been swinging a +2 broadsword for the 2nd and 3rd boss now and not really had a reason to change weapons yet. Love the moveset.

Not used them in combat yet. Haven't had much reason to really.

More of a Longsword guy myself. Love the heavy attack on it, great for confined spaces like corridors.

To be fair, I'm just using it till I get enough strenght to start swinging great weapons, full strength build.

I'll probably check those out, but the axe has been fun so far, despite being slow as feth.

Am I correct in thinking these games are basically a series of locked-in boss battles needing fast reflexes? I'm really not into those kind of games even though I like RPGs. I ask because I bought a second ps4 yesterday and DS3 was bundled in. I'm considering selling it still in the wrap as I doubt I'll get on with it.

More timing than reflex really. Memorization of move sets and knowing when to attack, dodge, shield or heal. It can be very tactical and intense.

There's also plenty of mobs to chew through, it's not all boss battles, it's just that the boss battles are so good it's what most people talk about with regard to enemies.

Very deep RPG system in place too.

Embrace patience and know you will die a lot and you might like it. I think old school gamers get on with it better than most newer gamers as it harkens back to the days when memorization, trial & error and dying a lot were expected in a game.
