First draft at a tau army, I have not played a game since '06 and even back then had only played a handfull of games. I'm looking to play in 1850 flgs with friends that only allows single cad and no low. Any feedback is appreciated, here's the list.

Again thanks for any comments, as this will be a pricey army to start building I want to make sure I'm headed in the right direction.

Welcome back. The game has changed a lot since 4e.

Some trimming:
a. The MSS and C&CN are useless with the other units you've taken. Since he can't join Monstrous Creatures, the Riptides' AP2 Ion fun won't get any benefit. B-sides are already Twin Linked. At most, if he joined the b-sides, then the MSS hurts fliers most, eliminating their Jink.
b. Lose the Shield Gen. Look out, sir! takes care of nasty AP2 wounds.
c. Add the Irid Armor. Totally worth it. Makes him immune to Instant Death from LasCans, MLs, and most likely, meltas.
d. Add a Drone Controller, and two MarkerDs. Have him join a unit of 4 MarkerDs, so they will shoot at his BS5.

MSS and C&CN are best given to an XV8 Vre, and then he buffs a bunch of Plasma Rifles and Fusion Bs.

MarkerDs are superior, given Armor Saves, Toughness and mobility. And remember to attach your HQ Drone Baby-sitter to one set of MarkerDs.

Oh, crap, you're building? Oops. Okay, then recommended:

1. Plan on a third riptide because the Montka book ( I think )has a great Riptide formation (check with your FLGS for acceptability).
2. 4 or 5 XV8s. FireKnives are no longer the best build. Dual PRs or dual FBs, with sergeant, errr, 'Vre having the MSS and C&CN. I like to preserve the commnder's high BS5 for shooting, instead of a 'Vre's crappy BS3.
3. No LoW? Okay.
