Hello!

Looking at the new Black Legion and Crimson Slaughter formations, I have a question regarding Obsec Troops.

In a regular CAD, all "Troops" gets objective secured... no issue here.

If I create an army composed entirely of Black Legion formations (or Crimson Slaughter formations), does this mean none of my units gets obsec?

BL example:
- Bringer of despairs (includes Abaddon as Warlord)
- Then a mix of other formations.

It would probably be the same with the big formations (Black Legion Warband or Red Onslaught)

You only get 'Objective Secured' if that is listed as a Command Benefit for that Detachment.

Unless a command or formation benefit grants Obsec; your units do not have it.

"Troops" are a battlefield role; your units always have a battlefield role whether they come from a formation or a normal detachment.

Example: the loyalist SM Battle demi company has all units from that detachment gain Obsec(no matter their battlefield role), a CAD or an Allied Detachment only gives it to Troops.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

I can't help but feel the formations are missing an overall "Decurion" detachment (like the demi-companies) that has somekind of army wide bonuses (such as some units gaining Obsec for example)

oh well... those new codex just lost a lot of value.

Can't a combined arms detachment also contain a formation? I though CAD only had you must have XHQ and X Troops. I was under the impression if your formation satisfied the requirements of a CAD you could benefit from Objective Secured as well as the detachment.

No. A unit can never be a part of multiple detachments

They have to be seperate.

With the noteable exception of the meta-detachments like Decurion, Craftworld Warhost, Gladius and others that explicitly grant the meta-formation command boni to the units in the contained formations.

One of the CSM supplements lists the other formations as parts and works like that.

However, this does not apply to a CAD, and therefore does not work.

Detachment #1: Combined Arms Detachment
1 HQ
2 Troop Choices

Detachment #2: Formation XY
Whatever units are listed for the Formation

Detachment#1-units will only benefit from the CAD rules, Detachment#2-units will only benefit from the Formation XY rules.
