I just picked up some flesh hounds, and was wondering if it's worth running Heralds on Juggernauts along with them. I like the idea of a 20 strong squad of hounds with a herald or two. If anyone has any experience running hounds with/without heralds or has any builds that would be awesome. Thanks.

Its a solid mid-tier pick, especially if backed up with some psychic buffs (Grimoire, cursed earth, prescience, endurance)

1-2 heralds on juggers, greater + lesser rewards. Give locus of rage on one herald and crimson crown on the other, then cast prescience, for 5 attacks per hound on the charge. You want to have 15-20 hounds in the unit, below that you won't see enough make it to combat.

Hounds without heralds are still pretty decent, but they have a whole host of things that they can't combat - with only 2 S4 AP- attacks after the charge many things can just bog them down in combat until they fail instability. Adding in 10 WS7 AP2 attacks massively increases their damage potential.

I always throw the hatred locus on the hounds, as hounds generally multi charge stuff, and then they don't get the bonus from rage, however hatred will still apply. Always run at least 1 jugger herald with axe of khorne.

Indeed, Hatred locus is way more versatile than Rage locus. Rage only works when you charge, and only charge a single unit. Hatred works if you charge multiple units, or even if you get charged.

Thanks for the input, I'll probably pick up some bloodcrushers to use as heralds then, I love the models anyway!

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

If you somehow find yourself with 40+ flesh hounds you could use the murderhost for 8 units of flesh hounds all with +1 attack from the formation and benefiting from your heralds loci within 12". Add on the crimson crown and you have 200x Str5 hatred attacks on the charge. The models themselves aren't that durable but there are enough of them to be a threat, plus it is just fun to run.

Yes thats a good point.
I generally use the Rage locus because I end up putting Prescience on the hounds 90% of the time anyway. If you don't have prescience / don't want to waste dice casting it, Hatred is a better option.

there is not a single good reason to not play a herald, AP2 attacks with ID, AC7 IN6, 1-2 herald are a must in any korne list

If you don't mind the tax of a unit of Cultists, an AD from KDK gets you a Lord on Juggernaught with a unit of Hounds who have fearless instead of Instability. If you go that route you could also plop unmarked Sorcerers on Bikes from the new formation into the unit.

Only downside to this is the HoK from KDK does not have access to rewards, meaning no AP2 weapon.

yes galef is right, often i found the KDK herald useful to put into possessed to give them an edge against MEQ units, at least you can have granted 3-4 AP3 attacks, that can make the difference in CaC.

I'll have to try this sometime! I would add the Hatred locus and probably the Blade of Endless Bloodshed for extra tithe points. Make Possessed relevant again! probably not, though...

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):

i add only locus of wrath then your possesed become a decent treath, of course dont expect them to do lot of things but your opponent cant ignore them anymore.
