It struck me recently that the Butcher's Nails were just a little too perfect to make the World Eaters the perfect legion for Khorne. They made Angron insane and unable to use his Primarch brain talents, just accentuated his physical force and brutal aspects. They made all the WE marines into frothing psychos who cared less and less about the Imperium and even their own brothers. And they were deadly to psychers, causing them to explode, thus removing the gross psychic flavour from the legion.
All of this seems like what Khorne would have done to a legion AFTER they had turned to him, but there it was already setup for him, thanks to this wonderful head gear.
Is it possible he pulled some Tzeentch level planning and had centuries earlier placed the Butcher's Nails on the very planet young Angron would end up crashing into when he was swept out of the Big E's nursery?
He also must have blinded the Big E to the very Khorne-like effects these nails were having on his son and grand sons, despite the fact the Big E had met Khorne himself and struck a deal with him.
Seems like we've all been underestimating the angry god. =

Nothing to see here, move along mortal.

quite possiable, Tzeetch may be THE plotter, but all of the chaos gods are pretty smart and capable of long term plans. I assumed that the hand of Khrone had pretty much been on Angron from the moment he got out of his test tube

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Or:

In the Grim Darkness of the 31st millennium, *someone* was going to make an industry out of high-tech gladiatorial combat. Khorne was probably just like "oh, I like that one, it goes smashy smashy". And then just punted Angron over there.

Which is how I see it, the CG decided which the best candidate for them was and plonked them down where they wanted them. I think the worlds were already corrupted by the DGs even before the Emperor arrived in some way or the other. They might have sworn to adopt the Imperial Creed but we know from the likes of Davin, Cholchis, Istvaan etc that the old ways weren't always forgotten. Even Caliban has Chaos at its core. I mean Nuceria - World of bloodshed, Barbarous - World of Death, Prospero - World of Knowledge. Chemos was a dump before Fulgrim turned up but he turned it into a perfect world of sorts.

In Scars

Spoiler:
Magnus reveals to the Khan that initially he had been destined for Chemos, rather than Fulgrim. But it got changed around by a terrible power.
