You can also put down the varying quality of the imperium's equipment to varying points of manufacture if you like.

As an example, by the end of ww2 German manufacturing no longer had all the rare metals they needed for the higher quality alloys. So while the continued to make the same tanks, the armor and ability of those tanks was significantly degraded.

Which is the advantage of an STC design after all, you can make it with a wide variety of materials. So a landraider on one planet might be built out of normal steel, have no suspension, no auto tracking weapons, but back when the Emperor was having them built they probably had all that and more.

Unfortunately GW's writing never really thinks about this sort of thing.

Now, do you want to know what we think or do you just want us to parrot your thoughts that "it's like the strongestest stuff EVAR, man!!!!!11ONE!!!"?

I tend to dismiss the nujmbers of IA2 as simply "writers not knowing any better" it's like the million strong clone trooper army in Star Wars, or the casualties at Vraks etc.

now that said keep in m ind the Land Raider is armored against DIFFERANT THINGS. sure the Abrams is tough vs HEAT shells. but how effective is it's armor going to be against a Plasma Cannon? or a Las Cannon? etc.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

As with pretty much anything in 40k, this is the only answer that is correct.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

or the casualties at Vraks etc.

Vraks has a single fortification that was supposed to be taken. It's not a populated planet. It's a bastion and supply dump on a barren planet.

Leopards and Abrams dont exist in 40k. Therefore any comparison is pointless.

Leman Russ use plasteel, not "regular RL steel". Plasteel is alot lighter (otherwise LR would be alot heavier). It's defensive properties against modern armor is unimportant. It protects against the weapons it faces, therefore it's sufficient.

Not very...

Your image is out of date as the IA2 2nd edition has very clearly changed it to not be based on exact values anymore.

The answer now is, "Stronger than our enemies."

so basicly forge world realized citing exact numbers in sci-fi is a good way to make your "Advanced super tech" look primitive 10 years down the line

Well someone go and work out the power of a tau rail gun.

And then work around the fact that that only penetrates the armour of a land raider 33% of the time.

It's power sucks because it can only give an mc a scratch.

Well, you can handwave discrepancies with different grades of the material, or even weaker weapons hitting weakspots caused by manufacturing errors.

Artificer armour gives far superior protection to regular power armour, despite being fundamentally the same thing.
