Can a stormlord be used in a space marine army? I remember seeing the text in book 2 saying superheavies can be taken in the legion armies, but I've been reading arguments that it can no longer be taken due to now being a part of the solar auxilia codex. Thoughts?

You cannot as there is already an equivalent in the 30k books. Believe they even talked about this at the last weekender.

Exactly.

Essentially, you can take a superheavy from Imperial Armour Apocalypse, Imperial Armour Aeronautica, and other such sources, provided no 'equivalent' exists in a horus heresy list already.

So the Crassus, Dominus, and Praetor superheavies (for example) are still available, but whilst the stormlord was originally an option, since it's been included in the Solar Auxilia list, it's not part of the general 'other stuff' options.

Wait, does that mean that I can bring a Mecharius in a SA list?

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

This is the official line on it. (I disagree, but suffer from not being Alan Bligh )
If someone happened to have a stormlord tho I would gladly play it.

Technically, I think so. It couldn't be called a 'macharius' because he wont exist for millennia, but the initial supporting verbiage said that there were any number of experimental prototypes fielded during the heresy - a mass-produced baneblade knock-off from some secondary forge world is not unlikely.

So it's not legal but do you think people would be opposed to me playing it? I don't want to buy a whole sa force just to field it

it would be up to whomever you're playing against. personally, I say go for the auxilia and run the stormlord with 4 volkite squads inside, and laugh as you melt any poor bastards who come too close

The Solar Aux are a fun list, and if budget is a concern you could run normal plastic Leeman Russ to fill out points after your 4 volkite sections and storm lord lol. Or you could just take your legion are a ally to the Auxillia.

If you take a Legion that is Sworn Brothers with Imperial Army, you could take them as allies and put them in the Storm Lord. Then take Lasrifle sections with agis lines. Ultras, Sons of Horus, Word Bearers, Salamanders, and Alpha legion can all be taken as a Sworn Brother Allied detachment to Imperial Army. (Note that in the case of alpha legion this is not true the other way around. I.E: Alpha legion with a Imperial Army detachment.) The allied chart is asymmetrical in Age of Darkness.

Mechanicum Tagmata can also run any Imperium superheavy from any FW publication in a LoW slot.

Allies, even Sworn Brothers, are expressly forbidden from boarding each other's transports.
