Correct me if I am wrong, but the new Death from the Skies expansion does not include Forge World flyers. Given that this supplement is rewriting the rules for all GW flyers (new stats, etc.) and drastically changing how flyers are played, what does this mean for FW flyers? Are FW flyers still valid? Will FW release dataslates for it's flyers? How will FW flyers funtion if they don't have the new necessary stats?

On a side note, it's sad/funny how GW stated in their news release that this expanaion includes "new dataslates for every flyer in the game," even though they forgot to include the many 40k FW flyers.

TL;DR - The new Death from the Skies expansion does not include FW flyers. What now?

Do not use the supplement and play the game as normal.

As with anything in the game. However, this could pose problems if opponents want to use the new rules against people with FW fighters, without homebrewing everything.

Also, this GW quote:

"The updated Flyer rules in Death from the Skies completely replace those in Warhammer 40,000: The Rules."

does this mean that AM can not longer use the vendetta because there is no datasheat in the new DFTS?

This is whats gonna happen because it happens every time GW introduces something new.

You are just gonna have to fudge it until they update the rest of the stuff, that or suck it up until they fix it. Its going to boil down to house rules for anything not there until GW updates everything.

The same thing happened when they first introduced flyers.

Just go look up the necron air force, or the vendettas. If you dont know about it, GW put out flyers, and for 3 months(?) there was no form of AA other then the agis defense life with a quad gun, SM did not get flakk missles until the new codex came out so. GW does this all the time, they put out a new system, but no real way to counter it unless you play the new system. Just get it some time and it will get ironed out.

This is also not the solution to just say, dont play with it, FW for all intent and purposes goes hand and hand with GW, they are just never on the same page.

Nothing, because the rules are garbage and nobody will use them.

Are FW flyers still valid?

Yes.

Will FW release dataslates for it's flyers?

Hopefully not, they have much better things to do.

How will FW flyers funtion if they don't have the new necessary stats?

By using the current flyer rules, which are the only rules anyone will care about.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

It also doesn't include codex flyers like the Vendetta. GW is not good at writing rules and seem to go out of their way to intentionally be bad at it. I would expect that as with anything else people will just muddle through.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Well. Lots of FW-flyers here. Storm Eagle, Fire Raptor, Vulture, Avenger and something like that.

I believe he meant the Death from the sky rules are garbage, not the FW fliers.

My group got together this weekend and actually told the FLGS owner not to bother buying more than one copy of DFTS. The only thing any of us really want from the book are the new SM and Ork flyers, and I'm sure it won't take long to find . . . alternative . . . sources for those datasheets.

They've been sincere, and probably spared their FLGS owner a monetary loss.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

Just when we see a glimmer of hope from GW in the rules department (AoS getting points with input from SCGT guys), they go and screw up 40k. I'm only playing 30k at this point so I doubt this will impact me very much but it's still not a good thing for the game. How do you release rules that completely change how flyers work but leave out half the flyers in the &#%$ game?! Smh

The idea was more "None of use really want this. I wouldn't recommend buying too many. They'll just sit in inventory" The FLGS just changed owners, and the new guy is more of a comic books and board games type than a wargamer. He doesn't want to stop carrying the wargaming stuff because it's one of the top sellers at the shop (only MTG generates more revenue there), so he told us to give him any advise we could on what to carry. We are happy to do so, and in exchange, we get to use the massive gaming space.

Here's a reason to rage for all the eldar and marine fans. New supplement has non-FAQd heldrake, meaning 360 degree bale flamers. ^^

Good. CSM need it. And I say that as a Marine player.

To everyone saying that these rules won't be used, people probably said the same thing about SHWs and GCs. Now try to find a list in higher points without them.

people did say the same thing about them, I remember when they first came out people made a big stink about em, but outside of a few outliers they're largely just seen as a thing now.

GW has never revised rules for forge world stuff when they change the rules. the Onus is on forge world to release a cigarette/Errata for their stuff.

Does not need to be FAQed if data sheet shows baleflamer as hull mounted weapon. This automatically means fixed 45 degree cone of fire.

Anyone has a screenshot of the New Heldrake?

The slates are copies of the older releases. -> Heldrake is the same as before the FAQ that neutered it to oblivion.

I got an email back from FW concerning their Flyers and Death from the Skies:

Thanks for the email. Although we are not able to give you a definitive answer at the moment, our studio will be working on some updates regarding how the Death from the Skies rules will work in conjunction with our range of 40k Flyers. We are passing on any questions regarding this to them so no need to worry.

For now we recommend that you discuss with your gaming group how these new rules will affect any Forge World 40k Flyers that you have and with any luck you may be able to work out some house or get you by rules such as using similar stats from Citadel Flyer models that are the closest equivalent until any official rules are issued.

So I guess we house rule them for now until they officially release.

We just need to match models to similar ones in order to determine Pursuit and Agility.

What makes a good match?

Example:

HellBlade - Fighter Class - Like a Razorwing Jetfighter (Pursuit 5, Agility 5)

Reasonning: Same armor value (10 everywhere), supersonic on both

HellTalon - Bomber Class - Like a Voidraven Bomber (Pursuit 5, Agility 4)

Reasonning: Same armor value (10 everywhere), supersonic on both

Chaos Fire Raptor - Attack Flyer - Like a Stormraven Gunship (Pursuit 3, Agility 2)

Reasonning: Same armor value (12 everywhere), both are weapon platforms

Lets discuss!
