Dawn of war 3? A reboot? Or a mobile tower defense game?

I'd totally be down for another RTS DoW game, though I daren't dare to dream. For hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

There have been persistent rumours of DoW 3 for a while now so its probably an official announcement for that.

I see some comments on youtube about base building. If they keep base building simplified i'm ok with it. Less buildings than dawn of war 1 but more than dawn of war 2. Think of a building per each unit type (heavy factory, light factory, tech lab, barracks, etc.). Kind of like the system they had in 'star wars: empire at war' but just with base building.

I hope it's a new dawn of war, but I kind of doubt it. If it is DOW, I am hoping for bigger armies and less micro. Base building optional.

I wonder what this means for a scale of the game. Will they be end game units, similar to what Baneblade and Khaine were?

Well. I've read some press stuff.

"According to Sega's press release, the new game "combines the epic scale of Dawn of War, with the customization and elite heroes of Dawn of War II", meaning the second game's more squad-focused approach has been scaled back somewhat.
The game also features super-walker units, described by executive producer, Stephen MacDonald as "our biggest units ever". That could signal the inclusion of models from Epic, the Warhammer 40K spin-off tabletop game which features gigantic units alongside super-miniature armies."

I definitely prefer DoW 2's design, and it fits 40k better, but as a long time RTS player base building is not a deal breaker for me. I'm more disappointed about the mixed faction campaign. I don't like jumping around between factions during one campaign and having no control over who I am playing at that time.

Still, it is very early and I'm more than willing to give Relic the benefit of the doubt.

Basebuilding is not bad in gameplay terms. SC2 is fun.

It's just beyond pants-on-head stupid. Marines do not build a small city and then attack. They attack attack attack, faster than the Guard or anyone else could. That is their JOB.

And don't get me started on Eldar.

Agreed. I was hoping for a basebuilding mechanic similar to the new XCOM games. Battle Barge/Strike Cruiser gets heavily damaged in the opening cinematic, the player then has to repair/rebuild sections of the ship that give access to new units/equipment/abilities. From there you would basically assemble an army list for each mission and launch.

I'm happy that it's actually announced, but I'm sad that we only get 3 races from the start. I knew we'd have to get a DLC for more, but this feels like a step back. Hopefully the DLC's add more than just one or two races at a time, if it's like DoW I in that regard.

Yup. The only thing I didn't like about DoW2 was the whole D&D-esque experience and level mechanic. I would have preferred to have the units be more codex-oriented, as in you have squads of 5, minimal wargear. You win battles and campaigns, you get more points and open up FOC choices, use your points to buy more wargear, more bodies, etc. for the upcoming battles.

Like I mentioned in the news thread, the return of base building is a huge disappointment to me. Base Managing is always the worst part of an RTS to me and ultimately serves no purpose for me other than to push me away from playing the multiplayer. That and has been said in this thread, it doesn't really fit the theme of some of the factions for them to set up a base on every map.

MAYBE if you set up a base per region and then deployed from that, but we all know that's not how it will work.

Krieg! What a hole...

Seems you'll be forced to jump from faction to faction during the campaign.

Oh no :(

And no Guard, obviously, but I guess I can wait a few years and an expansion for that.

As i said before base-building is absolutely fine in limited amounts. It gives something for the enemy to destroy and it looks cool when it is destroyed. It's much better than one building with near infinite health that even a prolonged siege can't destroy easily.

I just hope they have persistent scarring and bodies in this one. I'm not sure if DoW 2 did but DoW 1 definitely did.

Gotta say, having a hard time getting hyped about it. I liked CoH2 sort of, but I didn't like the commander system so porting that over into DoW doesn't wow me. The Trailers also just... weird?

Need more info.

Would love to see The Last Stand return.

I like the surrealist feel of the trailer.

Don't you see?! It's like symbolism! SYMBOLISM!!!!! That means our roided up 12 year olds (at least emotionally) in power armor have depth.

Gotta say i love how the Blood Ravens are getting attention. I mean i've actually had fun with the chapter and the darker colors of the blood ravens suit the dark theme of the franchise better than smurfs. Seriously as much as people rage about marines including me i'd actually probably enjoy a Blood Ravens supplement or something. I don't know they'd be worth their own codex but it could be cool.

I noticed that the PC Gamer article only said that three races had been revealed, not that the game was only confirmed to have three races. So we may yet see at least one more announced. IIRC, both DoW and DoW2 included four races at launch. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's at least one more yet to reveal.

From screenshots and such, tiny armies return from DoWII... Instant dislike.

I also hope it's not just 3 factions at launch. That would be bad.
