So quick question, could I model my terminator lord (one power fist one Lightning claw) with a wrist mounted bolter on his powerfust to give him some ranged attacks? Or are the loyalist wrist mounted weapons there own wargear? Thanks

Sadly not. Modelling-wise, give him whatever you like, but each weapon option for a terminator-armoured chaos lord replaces one weapon (the combi-bolter or power weapon) with another weapon - you can never increase the number of guns he's carrying.

Does he have the option to have a bolter? How its modeled isn't really a problem if he has the option to have a bolter in the first place.

Well, just check what options he has. So long as Bolters or Storm Bolters are listed options, then you can legally pay the points for it, and you can model it however you choose. I think a wrist-mounted storm bolter on a powerfist would look really cool! The only models I know otherwise that has this as an actual model is Abaddon and Calgar.

EDIT: As above, check and see how it works. As stated, is it swapping items, or is adding them on? For swapping, really carefully read what weapons the model has.

Your codex will always tell you what weapon options are legal for your models. If the codex doesn't give you the ability to arm yourself with a power fist, lightning claw, and stormbolter at the same time, then it isn't a legal combination.

That doesn't stop you from modeling it that way, if you think it looks cool. But you could glue a turbolaser to your lord's shoulder and he still wouldn't get one, because the option isnt in your codex.

Edit: some of the other replies in this thread aren't very good and might confuse you. Just because it's possible to have a combi bolter as one of your weapons doesn't mean you can take as many weapons as you want and throw a combi bolter on top. Every weapon you choose replaces another weapon, so power fist + lightning claw + combi bolter is one weapon too many.

Serious question, did you read the codex entry before posting this? Was it confusing? We can help explain it. Better to teach a man to fish than have him post a thread about every weapon option question he has.

The wrist mounts do free up the hands for modeling reasons. If you wanted to have him pointing, 2 hands on a thunderhammer, etc.

But the codex just put a pretty hard cap on what you can actually give him. Most upgrades are swaps, so you have to give something up to add something. Keeps him from being a walking bundle of gear.

And that answers my question, thanks!

I really should have phrased that better but my question was does the bolter replace the weapon or could it be added on if I payed the points for it.

Generally weapon options replace an existing weapon on the model. Only a very narrow selection of weapons are flat out given to a model without replacing it (the only ones that come to mind are some poorly-worded relics).

Modelling wise, you can replace your model's face with a bolter and no one would care, provided that the cost was paid for and he can legally take one.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Aye, and the weapons aren't affected by how they're represented on the model anyways (well, vehicles actually care about weapon mounts but that's a different topic).

An infantry model able to have two swords and two guns could be modeled with swords in both hands, guns in both hands or one of both - it makes no difference to which weapons he can use. Generally one ranged weapon to shoot and his choice of up to two close combat weapons for assault. Terminators usually wield their gun with one hand whatever it is but it's still not a pistol (for the cc bonus) unless it's Type Pistol.
