Hello!

I've recently gotten into painting and using Tempestus Scions (currently I only have one squad of full plastic Scions, and 10 Kasrkins that are being shipped in that I can use as Scions, with 2 more boxes of Scions and 2 Valkyries ordered already) I was wondering a good amount for using Scions with Astra Militarum. Usually I play fluffy lists in 2v2s with a 1000 pt list each, i'm not really that much of a 'WAAC' person, just hoping to integrate forces into my list and test them.

Any suggestions for Militarum Tempestus is welcome and discussions are what I am looking for.

Thanks!

you probably have more than enough right there! looks like you have enough to field a command squad and 4 5-man squads (or 2 10) with valks for transportation (and an amazingly fun kit to paint tbh, check my gallery for pics!) I would only suggest if you've got the temperment to pick up 2 tauroxes. They are nice additions and despite the fact they are probably 20 points too expensive can still pull their weight quite well, especially if your scatter dice hates you!

17,000 points (Valhallan)
10,000 points
6,000 points (Order of Our Martyred Lady)

Stormcast Eternals: 7,000 points

As allies for Imperial Guard, Scions tend to be used as suicide melta squads: 5 men deep strike in with 2 meltas and hope to pop something important. But it sounds like you've moved closer to a full CAD of Scions to run alongside your IG with all those purchases. But at 1000 points, including too many Scions will really start to eat into your ability to afford better IG units.

I mean, I do play the occasional 2000 pt 2v1 match where Scions would be way more... Hm... 'buyable' of sorts. Part of the reason I've taken such an interest in scions is because I love painting them, they just look so cool to me.

1. Use the new artillery formation.
2. Fill the rest with deep striking Tempestus squads in a Combined Arms Detachment. Five models, two special weapons, vox caster.
3. Profit.

Tauroxes are fun but by the numbers for about the same points you could have another deep striking squad that's more durable. The goal is overwhelming your opponent with ObSec deep striking onto every objective. Twin linking the new artillery formation is a bonus. Maybe buy a fortification too to survive the first turn.

That actually seems like a relatively fun idea..

What did I miss with this new artillery formation?

Also I generally only run five man squads. AP 3 sounds awesome, but with S3 and only 18" it falls a little flat. The special weapons do most of the work- so you'll want to max out on those. AKA 5 man squads.

That said I can see use for more guys in a "line" squad. One there to actually deploy normally or man an aegis line. If I were to have such a unit, it would most likely still be limited to 7 guys with 2 plasmas or volley guns.

If you have a vox caster near the artillary's target, it becomes twin-linked. Any vox-caster.

And you can give orders to the artillery!

I play Militarum Tempestus. I find that 8 man squads are best, and two of them armed with the special weapons (I use Meltas and/or the Volley guns). Two Volley guns on the move or the drop fire 4 times, 8 when not moving. So on the move you're killing about 3 MEQ and standing still, 4.33. That's pretty decent productivity given that min/maxing Marine squads is a thing. It leaves a squad of 5 pretty combat ineffective.

This goes way up if you happen to use the pecial Militarum Tempestus orders for Preferred Enemy or even just Twin linking the attack.

If the squad gets any smaller it becomes pretty much useful for just one kind of target, usually armor. Any bigger and you are maybe flirting with waste a little bit for symmetry's sake.

8 feels about right when I use them.
