Hello folks, just a few questions about the new AoS as i have'nt played for about 10years or so.
Ive picked up the starter box AoS game, along with another set of the stormcast half of the box - thought I'd start a stormcast army, quiet like the look of them, gives me loads to paint to get some practice in so all good there.
Ive also picked up some Bretonnian's, noticed they stopped making them so got some stuff off ebay.
Do many people still play bretonnian in AoS? In terms of an army list do people play a purely Bret army, or some form of alliance?
So far Ive picked up - The King, box of bowmen and 14 mounted knights. Some models will be a pain to pick up, was to late to pick up the battalion box set sadly, not sure if a Stormcast/Bret army would work?
Does anyone know the cost of the pegasus knights boxed set (Uk) when it was available, think one came with the battalion and there was a set of three box set, but have no idea what they originally cost, which would be handy when looking on ebay The field trebuchet are crazy priced on ebay so was thinking of using the gondor battlecry trbuchet and change the crew to something suitable, would this be ok to use?
Just a random question to finish, not played in a few years so might be simple answer The rules and all warscrolls needed t o play AoS are free online? This seems wierd to me......something free? But 40k isnt?

Brets are now a "legacy" army. This means GW no longer sells them but continues to support players by keeping their rules in the free app.
As for alliances, the older way of thinking about armies has changed. There are - until summer - no force restrictions. Tournaments have gone with Grand Alliances - i.e. pick Order, Chaos, Death or Destruction. That has allowed people to come up with interesting lists.

Free online and free in the free app (which I recommend). 40k remains the same; though recently they've given new unit rules away for free too (like the Deathwatch models).
As for prices, I can't recall.

Brets aren't very popular thats why they were cancelled. The bat reps I've seen ran Brets (solo) or Brets/Empire and ran a ton of different Knight on horseback units.
Hope this helps somewhat.

Makes sense if they where not very popular, was just grabbing up some random models for painting, but thought later on if i didn't quiet have a full army of brets / or struggle to get certain units, they might work in with another army, cheers.

Yes it should work with any other army. Why wouldn't they? One good thing about AoS is, anything can go with anything. It's all up to our imaginations, until you come up with that Richard who says you can't for "just because". Then that is the person you avoid playing.
Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?
Auticus wrote: Or in summation: its ok to exploit shoddy points because those are rules and gamers exist to find rules loopholes (they are still "legal"), but if the same force can be composed without structure, it emotionally feels "wrong".
Many? I doubt it, but there are certainly still Bret players keeping the dream alive in AOS, just as there were players doing the same in WHFB 8E. Ash plays his Brets occasionally in his GMG videos, like this one:
In terms of an army list do people play a purely Bret army, or some form of alliance?
I'm sure people do both - in fact the report above mixes in other Empire / Order units with Bret stuff, IIRC, but he has earlier ones that are straight up Brets. As explained, you can basically take whatever you want in AOS, and the tightest restriction you'll likely see is sticking with one Grand Alliance (Order in this case). What may limit you to mostly Bret units, however, is if you want to take advantage of the keyword-based synergy built into many warscrolls (spoiler: you'll want to ). Your general's command ability often only affects models with a similar or specific keyword; for example, a Bret Lord can let Nobility models re-roll charge rolls within 15" (huge for Brets!), and can also help Nobility models who flee within 10" stick around on a 4+ (great when you're light on model count). Clearly neither rule does anything for models around him without the Nobility keyword. In addition to keeping your keywords focused, another reason to pull mostly from a single faction is if you're using a Formation - a set of units that when fielded together receive a bonus (super familiar if you know 40k). Formations range in power, but are just about always a good idea if you're headed for one anyway, and have the side effect of focusing your army as well.

A decent start! I'd say finding a damsel and peg knights would be a good next step. And then of course moar knights, likely one of the specialized variants (Grail, Questing, etc).
not sure if a Stormcast/Bret army would work?
Sure, and both are Order, and seem pretty fluffy. You'd probably want a pretty specialized unit or two - monster killers, unit killers, super turtle unit, dracoth / drake riders to go with the mounted theme, etc.
Does anyone know the cost of the pegasus knights boxed set (Uk) when it was available, think one came with the battalion and there was a set of three box set, but have no idea what they originally cost, which would be handy when looking on ebay
Sadly I don't, though could possibly dig it up online.
The field trebuchet are crazy priced on ebay so was thinking of using the gondor battlecry trbuchet and change the crew to something suitable, would this be ok to use?
Totally! Men At Arms kit should provide the filthy peasants you're looking for
The rules and all warscrolls needed t o play AoS are free online? This seems wierd to me......something free?
Yep, still free. You can buy books of printed warscrolls (you'd want the Grand Alliance: Order one), which are decently priced, but the scrolls are almost all online.
40k rules are like the opposite of free But someday that system's Age will come, and personally I can't wait for Age of Horus
Finally, do you know about scrollbuilder.com? Can't recommend it enough if you'd like to structure your growing force around some kind of points. I, and many others, use SCGT pool comp, however GeeDub has caved and will be releasing its own warscroll points this summer, vetted by the SCGT crew but largely unrelated.
EDIT: Wow, King Leoncoeur is legit! Really decent character, without sliding into cheese realms

Salutations, Templar101 and welcome to the battlefields of AoS!
Though glorious Bretonnia has been discontinued model-wise I still see alot of activity for the army. It's actual a top-tier army with actually devastating cavalry and bowmen who, if used right, can turn even Archaon into a pincushion.
The army did have a moment of return with a "back by popular demand" last chance to buy. Despite that, it was obvious the army was cut due to outdated (but beautiful) models and still being overshadowed by Empire sells.
I'm still hopeful that Bretonnia might see some sort of return to AoS. It definitely sold marvelously at it's closing stages to the point that things were sold-out before the last chance was put in place, so GW might have taken notice. Hopefully AoS' s growing popularity might encourage such a return, either by GW or Forge World.
(Oh, and there's two Order knightly cavalry forces, the Order Draconis and the Azyrheim Lancehost, which could certainly see more knight cavalry being added)
Until then, I've expanded my huge Bretonnia collection with Stormcasts and Wood elves. Though my future Bretonnians will most likely be kitbashes: warhorses+Prosecutor wings=pegasus, Dragon princes+ AoS starter set=knights of the realm, wood elves+ empire huntsmen=bowmen, etc.
Also, Bretonnia and Stormcasts work splendidly together in crunch and fluff. They share the keyword "Paladin" so they synergized well and the are both mystic armored knights that uphold justice and protect the weak.
Bretonnia is also confirmed to be supported rule-wise in the upcoming three AoS modes, so they're not going away for those who worry.
Best of fortune to you friend in building your gallant army of Bretonnia!
