hey all, so just have a couple questions about an idea for an eldar force. little bit about myself Im not new to 40k persay just getting back into it after a long hiatus, im quite familiar with the current set of rules and have 2 armies i play regularly already its just been a long time since ive played or even seen eldar in action (like 2004 ish lol)

so internet land i want to start a wraith guard force is there anything in particular i should look out for (still working on gettting my hands on a codex) is it fairly cut and dry? foot troops, Wlord, W knight +warlocks? are Wg able to enter most transports? is the army considered a cheesy route (i personally prefer the non power-gamer route and enjoy a tougher battle than an easier one)

any incite helps really just looking for some good starter pointers!

Cheers

Put it like this... I played my regular opponent's new wraith host army a few weeks back. I didn't get a turn 2...

Shush you

It can be very cheesy if you set it up to be cheesy, and very casual if you build it as such.

You'r close combat choices of Wraithblades, Wraithlords and Wraithseers are often considered very friendly and have a lot of fun option in the codex + Doom of Mymeara book. Even single shot Wraithcannons shouldn't cause much of a problem as long as you limit the amount of D - scythes, Wraithknights in your list you'll be fine

so far what im thinking. i found some downloads for the codex, running the wraithhost formation

spirit seer-fancy relic pistol witch blade

3 units of wraithguard (one is wraithblade with axes)

lord and knight have the ccw upgrade and star/suncannons

then just for some fun and an excuse to buy avengers a dire host

2 avenger units and the axeman wraiths all rocking around in wave serpents with holofeilds

You'll need some form of transportation for the wraithguard (maybe running a battlehost to give them an automatic 6" run or maybe wave serpents?) also people may give you funny looks for using a Wraithknight at low points limits, but considering the lack of shooting in your list I think you're fine.

If you want dire avengers too, you could sacrifice the +1BS and the battle focus for wraith units and take a CAD enabling you to take a Farseer, and extra wraithlords

It would give you more flexibility for what units you could take but sacrificing some formation bonuses, however the bonuses aren't that big anyway as you will be running around in wave serpents

oh ok ya thats definitely worth looking into! I didn't really want 3 units of wraith guard guard either id rather roll with 2 larger groups one cc one shooty

Wraithlords seem exceptionally powerful on paper, remind me of dreadknights but almost meaner lol would i get dirty looks for running more than one ?

Probably not. Most people ignore them anyway.

Doubt it, you could run up to 3 along with a Wraithknight if you wanted, taking up all heavy support and LOW choices in your CAD

In my experience they struggle to get into close combat because they get focused down because they are very deadly in close combat, the more you have the more likely it is you will actually get them into close combat

That is how I am going to run my 10 Wraithguard and 5 Wraithblades in two squads on foot for my next game. With a Farseer and a Spiritseer you can use these to Fortune and the Runes of Battle Primaris to Shroud units for better survivability, and because you have them condensed into two squads it can be easier to protect either with psychic powers. If you are taking large squads they obviously can't fit in Wave Serpents so they are a lot less cheesy as you have to cope with their short range guns

You should post some lists so you can get specific advice on what you are planning on taking
