Question - To go up terrain you would measure the vertical height. and include that in you're movement right?

This scenario played out last night.

Player A has a unit on a 2" high ridge, kind of like a moor, but vertical sides not sloped like a hill. The unit is about 1 inch away from the edge of the ridge. To go up terrain you would measure the vertical height. and include that in you're movement right?

Player B has a unit 5 inches away, in a straightline, on lower ground.

Player B charges Player A's.

Player B measures the charge in a straight line and decides that the charge is a 7" charge, taking into account the -2 for charging into terrain.

Should Player B have also included the height of the ridge in that charge making it a 9 inch charge?

Yes. You measure base to base. nothing tells you to only measure this in a single plane. You measure, at least, the diagonal.

Iirc the faq rough draft actually mentioned elevated charges and said you measure diagonally

Maybe I was wrong, I skimmed through and didn't see it but I'm at work so I was reading quickly.

If it isn't in the faq you have two things to consider. You measure base to base for charges, and you measure horizontal and vertical for movements.

So I'd say either measure the horizontal, then the vertical and add it for distance or measure diagonally directly from base to base.

The FAQ entry deals with measuring weapon ranges, but the same principle applies to movement.
