I just got a hold of the Doom of Myeara rules. Now that I have changed my shorts and smoked a cigarette, I'm ready to consider lists for a narly assed GT, the BayAreaOpen.

I sincerely think you'll be laveled as TFG (even by tournament standards) if you show-off with the riptide formation as the only piece of a tau army. IMO the second one looks funnier to play and a second thing: on hawks you should look what will the tournament organizers do. If they don't accept the FAQ or the FAQ gets shot down then go for the hawks. Otherwise I think the other choice are more scatbikes for your squads (that way the boost from guide would be greater, if you apply it) or indeed rangers. They work wonders for me because most of people think them as unassuming enemies (sniper? Pahahah, it's useless now!1One!) and with a single 6, with a bit of luck, would recover a good chunk of your squad's worth.

Drop a few Warp Spiders for the extra points to get 2x3 Wind riders. They are just objective campers, deny objectives, or even additional Line Breaker.

Did you upgrade your Wraithseer with a weapon, such as a D-Cannon? I have used him quite a bit and he works fairly well.

You are missing a gray unit from the book: the Warp Hunter. Get on or two into your army.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

It's a regular feature of the meta, here in Calif., Trip-tide with Eldar. I still agree that you're right. It's a total TFG thing to do, and I fielded them in the last RTT. None of my peeps batted an eye.

The ITC organizers are already hinting at putting it (many of the FAQ items) to a vote by ITC membership. The last Poll/Vote had 1200+ respondents.

I only own the 13 jetbikes. I agree, the Rangers are a good unit for the couple ITC mission Home Deployment Zone Objective Sitters.

For list 1 you could stick the spare points in an Autarch, smooths out reserve rolls and looking at the list it seems a lot will start in reserve (although part of my brain thinks you might not be able to add an extra HQ and I'm too lazy to go look in the book...)

Not yet. I'm still debating on the amount of points I wish to invest, though now that you bring it up, I have the points.

" a gray unit " ... something mandatory ?

(goes to reread the rules)

Sorry.
Auto correct on my phone. I meant great unit. Warp Hunters and the new Wraithknight variants are arguably the best two units in the book.

I went all in with corsairs and got a bunch of upgrade kits ordered for my birthday. 2+ reroll shadowfield is just gravy. Put them on a jetbike and it's just nasty.

I think I like the first list with the melta knight. You don't have any ranged AT at all. Your WK is the only thing that can kill armor, and it has to do it in CC. Go with the inferno lance/shield and pop those tanks so your bikes/spiders can clean house once the boxes are opened up.

my 2 cents

ITC rules, which has long (2+ years) had Re-Rollable 2+ going to a 4+ on the re-roll.

The Melta Knight made me drool fer sure. Besdies him, ranged AT is not an issue, as Spiders are maneuverable enough to take on most tanks <AV12, even Imp Knights, by getting around to their AV12 sides. And maneuverable enough to pop the tanks, and disallow "Emergency Disembarking".

Once the grenade FAQ issue is decided then I may or may not bring Hawks or FireDs ....

And these days, does anyone take a Land Raider out of the garage? >

Consider a dark reaper unit to man the Icarus. Fast shot plus ignore jink transfer to firing the weapon and he can intercept with it and then fire his reaper launcher in the shooting phase.

A favorite, but what to cut in favor of them? I've loved Reapers since the 6e codex and only recently put them out for more Scitter-bugs ... as a buddy calls spiders.

Why shield on knight?
Is it really worth it to HALF its firepower to (sometimes) increase his survivablity by only 1/3?

In our meta, njd? When ITC ruled out Toe-In cover, which, is likely to be the GW ruling, too?

My Sword and Board WK finishes games alive with a Shield. There are too many Hunter's Eye grav crews in rhinos and other 'no cover for you!' shenanigans.

I dunno, maybe the Skathach is more a fire base than a regular WK ... .

pm713,
I dunno as your Q quite addresses njd's assertion, but I'll try to answer.

ITC has a nerf on D-ranged shooting, so many players have considered the Glaive/Shield, maybe with ScatLas WK as a better load out.

Once ITC ruled out Toe In Cover for WK's in last autumn's membership poll/vote, many more folks opt for the Shielded WK.
