Hi all! In a few weeks me and a buddy will be hosting a 30k escalation league/campaign, and I was curious if there were any 30k specific issues I should keep an eye out for? we're starting at 1,000 points (to accommodate B@C armies so we can get more people to play/expand), with a ban on named characters, as well as using the character advancement chart to make our own, so to speak. I was thinking of allowing xenos races to play, though I feel it would almost be unfair to certain armies (both in 30k and 40k), any thoughts?

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field. |

It would be easiest to keep it 30k humans only.
adding in xenos would be a pain
you may also consider only letting marines play. admech and IG i hear are really REALLY strong.

I won't ban mechanicum or solar auxilia/militia, though I've been getting much of the same feedback on xenos armies.
As for the xenos, the main reason I considered it was to bulk up the numbers until more people hopefully notice, though I have no issues stopping them.
The thing is: while strong, mechanicum can be dealt with fairly easily once you've faced them a few times (more-so in lower point escalation leagues). As for solar auxilia, I've seen them kick quite a lot of butt (idk if luck, or what), but they are still easily dealt with IMO, on average being worse than marines in most reguards minus numbers and range.

Fair enough. you going to do teams based on alignment?
or just a free for all? using generic maelstrom missions or the red book missions?

a mix or red book mission and special 'event' mission. the split will be traitors/loyalists, with the players choosing where to be (i.e. no forced allegiances)

I honestly think that if you want it to be a true 30k league, then it should be HH only. No xenos, just the forgeworld lists. It might bulk numbers but more likely it will just get a bunch of people with Xenos armies that don't fit the feel of the HH and will dilute the experience for people who just want to show up and play other Age Of Darkness lists.
Maybe not as strict a rule but i would ask people to declare whether or not they are playing Loyalist or Traitor armies, regardless of faction. It probably won't be a big deal if you don't have named characters, but it would give a better grounding for army themes.
You certainly shouldn't ban Mechanicum/Solar Aux/Militia because they are all legit lists for the period and it makes people have to think about their lists. If you're just facing marines then you won't see many things like chain axes or low AP weapons. With a mix, it will encourage more diversity in the marine lists.
