I could swead I saw a different version of this qoute in one of the books. It was pretty much the same.

Wait, didn't they have a deep-seated grudge with the Imperium? Something about the SM exterminating all sentient life on a few of their worlds and annexing them into the Imperium?

Yup. They hate the Imperium and are nursing a grudge. They probably work for the Tau because the Tau are some of the safest employers a mercenary can have in 40k.

There is also the Stryxis in the Koronus Expanse that will willingly deal with Humans.

Some Orks will fight for the Imperium especially the Blood Axes.
