Hi!
Can a Tau Commander with Coldstar suit make thrust moves while swooping? And if so, in which directions?

Is he a jetpack unit?
No.
So why would he have thrust moves?

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Uhm, he sure looks like a Jet Pack unit. But I guess you might have a point there.

He's a Flying Monstrous Creature, not Jet Pack Infantry. Different set of movement rules.

His unit type changes when you go Coldstar.

He goes from Jetpack unit to Flying Monstrous creature. You do not keep the original Jetpack rules.

something to keep in mind also. He is still an IC, remember to join him to a squad (if you are going to) after the rest of the ICs have already joined (MC).

out of curiosity, if you put him in a drone squad and then zoom, do all the drones leave the table as well?

This is something a few of my colleagues have been debating, and we have decided that he cannot swoop if attached to them (via being able to attach to them via the GW FAQ draft) as the drones he joins are not HIS drones

I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't model my coldstar commander on top of a shield drone, like the ethereal's hover drone. . . 'LOS! bounce off of me to survive that grounding test!'

Now that is something that RAW is totally legit, and that is exactly how I imagine it

due to the wording of jetpack - I believe he can make a thrust move if he is in a jetpack unit.

This got clarified in the draft FAQ, no you can't

He does act as jump infantry when gliding, which can allow him to tank for Vespids.

He can join any unit that does not include an IC or a MC, with Drone squads being an obvious choice. One tactic often discussed is to put a Drone Controller on him and glide/swoop him between squads in a Drone Net to bring BS5 wherever it's needed.

As to can he take an entire squad of drones with him when he swoops? I feel that "his drones" is still too loose of a term in English to mean just the Drones you buy for him, but quite a lot of people feel otherwise. To avoid arguments, I recommend avoiding this tactic and just stick to the Drones you buy with him (until GW says otherwise).
