I don't really see what's unusual about it - they're using the game which is a weapons-grade sales tool to try and push some minis. Hell, if WHFB was still around it would probably have gotten me to start an army, same as Dawn of War back in the day.

That's what I was getting at, but hey....
Im still a big fan of box set creep campaigns. I could easily see this as a gateway drug.

Well they're usually terribad at that. Seen any good Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader models lately?
Codex Blood Ravens?
And of course it's hysterical they're using this game to promote a world the blew up a year or so ago and vowed never to return to.

Probably coz the game is based on WHFB as opposed to AOS and the fluff and background is the foundation, and hence success, of Total War Warhammer; really couldn't imagine developers doing anything of the sort with AOS to be honest.
Interesting move by GW in putting up a collection of WHFB (and subsequently used in AOS) models in a gallery linked to the Total War Warhammer franchise. I'd say there has to be some questions being asked in GW HQ on deciding to blow up the Old World and WHFB franchise instead of having just frozen it, starting the current AOS as a separate game entirely, and then having the opportunity to restart things with WHFB when boosts of interests arise due to Total War's development and even Blood Bowl down the line.

All boisterous claims made back when they expected their customers to descend upon AoS with a frenzy, and ended up with a system that's limping along and developing some serious schizophrenia.

Such a mess... so much cringe...
What I suspect is, if it wasn't for End Times and AoS, Total War Warhams would never be made. GW seems to have that stupid idea based on exactly nothing that a video game too similar to tt one will somehow kill/ damage the latter. Absurd as usual from GW and what we see here is imo an attempt to sell minis to video gamers as desk showpieces/ gadgets/ sth like that and maybe hook up a few on AoS as a side effects.
Who knows what they think though, they transcended business sense long time ago.

Don't they think it'll be confusing when videogamers look into the minis for the game, but the current game they are sold for bears no resemblance to the videogame?

You're forgetting AG, Games Workshop sells jewel-like objects of wonder and we buy them. Setting, aesthetic, gameplay, that's all irrelevant next to the plain fact that GW are giving us the opportunity to purchase their products, and that is our hobby.

Dawn of War was really clearly based on Warhammer 40k though. Age of Sigmar doesn't even look like Warhammer Fantasy anymore, much of the time. I'm guessing these ships passed in the night because video game development takes so long and GW's so secretive that Creative Assembly probably never got the memo, or if they did, it was too late.

A video game the size of Warhammer Total War takes about... 3-6 years to make. Its very likely by the time the licensing deal was finalized it was still old hammer. Or it could be simply creative preference on their part. I doubt GW has any real concerns when developing games except to tell them lore stuff they can't do or cross ect. Unless its a cheap smaller annualized game.

It should have been out yesterday, instead they're doing Blood Bowl (and it'll still be 6-12 months too late to ride the BB2 video game hype train) and then Adeptus Titanicus (with no video game tie-in we know of), then BFG maybe 1-2 years after video gamers forget it exists.

So a year after the video game has cooled off.
Which is insane because literally all GW had to do was take the molds off the shelf and do a limited rerelease. Put out the plastics and the rules as a PDF.

Exactly. When the first news of Warhammer Total War came out, there was no AoS, not even End-Times.

That sounds like a good idea to you and me maybe.
I have no doubt hundreds would label it a 'cheap cash grab' and declare that GW has gone back to their old ways of scamming people with limited window releases. Seriously, GW is either allegic to money or an evil money rubbing company according to the community.

Maybe but what CA is doing is mainly professional modding the engine of the last release and adding graphical flair heh. Also AoS might have been in plans already then.

They would be praised to high heavens, look at Deathwatch Overkill.
Releasing a good game with good models and bringing more people into It through video game, that's not a cash grab that's good work.
