This came across my facebook feed and didn't find a thread.

Would any of you use this?

on the forum. Obviously

I have an account to try it out.
No one within 100 miles of me, and it won't let me remove a game system, which means I'm stuck with antares on my account since I registered through the antares version. Derp.
Its a good idea I guess, but it needs work on its UI.

Hey Namiel, I was expecting to make the announcement myself, thanks!

In short, it's a free tool for people to find new players in their area. Additionally, we create global and regional leaderboards for the games based on an ELO score that we calculate for each user. We are expanding functionality to include a Store and Club registry, as well as Event Tracking, which I think will be really nice. For Event Tracking we will notify you if there is a tournament or other event, for your game, coming up within your local area (most likely 50 miles). Ideally, we want the app to not just be useful for people looking for new opponents, but for anyone who plays the games.

@CthululsSpy - We underestimated how many people to register for games that they do not play. Since we didn't expect many people would, we put off removing a game for the sake of getting the app out in time for a few of our partners announcements this summer. That said, a LOT of people ended up adding games they do play and obviously want them removed, so we've bumped that up in the priority.

I would rename your thread to not have question marks and also describe what it is you are talking about -

Oh, that's nice to hear. Good to see useful changes are along the way.
Still a bummer that it won't detect anyone near me, but that's to be expected I suppose.

I recall not seeing Warhammer Fantasy Battle on the list. Would it be possible to add it? I know that its a defunct system, but there are still those who would like to play it.

How come flames of war isn't on the player finder? It's a very popular game in some areas.

Other than that the app seems promising, for a guy like me who travels a lot it will be handy. I've used dakka's and wwpd's player finders in the past but they always seemed limited by being part of a forum. Maybe a general player finder will be more successful.

Also, why is it called an app? I couldn't find it in the Google app store and had to go to the website

We haven't had much player demand for FoW, but I will reach out to Battlefront!

Just because it's not one you can download doesn't mean it's not an app, the term is used for basically any self-contained piece of software. That said we do plan on converting it into an app you can download on the app stores, while in beta though, it's easier to iterate on it while it's web-based.

Will you timeout inactive users? To keep the quality high on Dakka's player finder, we hide any users who we've not seen in 6 months. There was one that predates Dakka's which ended up a graveyard of broken contacts as a result of the heavy ebb and flow that games and players have towards wargaming.

Check out our new, fully plastic tabletop wargame - Maelstrom's Edge, made by Dakka!

that's certainly a great idea

(or at least have a filter that will let you ignore people who haven't visited in a while if you don't want to actively exclude them)

Probably can use a system so you can hide your own account when you are not looking to get challenged for a bit because life is busy.

We will have a feature like that, though thankfully since the app is brand new, it's not needed just yet, it will be added though.
