Hi all,

I've come up with the following list for a 1,000 points game using my World Eaters. I will be fighting against either alpha legion or night lords, whichever my opponent decides to use. Let me know what you think

HQ

Kharn + Gorechild = 190

Centurion + artificer armour + power axe + refractor field = 85 (this guy is a praetor with paragon blade in larger lists)

Troops

Legion Tactical Squad + boltguns and extra CC weapons (chain axes) + Vexilla + sergeant with artificer armour + power fist = 205

Legion Tactical Squad + boltguns and extra CC weapons (chain axes) + Vexilla + sergeant with artificer armour + power fist = 205

Elites

Contemptor Dreadnaught + Kheres AC + heavy flamer = 200

Heavy Support

Predator + lascannon sponsons = 115

I would add rhinos for mobility but in larger games I'm running 15-20 man tac squads and I don't want to buy something that I'm not going to use much.

What do you think?

Ed

Also, what rite of war, if any, should I use?

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Admittedly, at 1000pts, your options are fairly limited. Honestly, though, I would drop one of the characters in favor of more tactical marines. Kharn by himself is another squad you could take instead. If you must have Kharn (because Kharn is cool, I know), then I would still exchange the Centurion for more bodies.

That would probably be the best way to go to be honest. I had the idea that each character would go with a squad but more guys would be better I suppose. Kharn is in there, not just because he's cool, but for his Master of the legion rule

Agree, drop the Centurion for more tacticals. Kharn is, well, Kharn. I would keep him.

My favorite Rite of War is Berzerkers Assault, IMO, plays to the fluff of the XII Legion. However, you will need three compulsory troops choices for that selection. Taking out the Centurion will give you some of the points for that third tactical. I have taken the bolters completely out of my two tactical squads in exchange for free CCWs. That will also free up some points to put into a third tactical (If you go with that RoW.).

I would also suggest replacing the heavy flamer, if points become available, and replace with a graviton gun on the Contemptor. Haywire for some more anti vehicle would be good.

If he dropped Kharn, then added in a stock Delegatus (To keep his RoW) and a stock Primus Medicae, then it could be worth a try. Tannhauser42 has it right, more troops. Either a third tactical or beefing up the two originals.

If I drop the centurion and swap the bolters in the tac squads for extra CC weapons instead of having both, I can add 5 guys to each squad and give the dread a graviton gun and a havoc launcher with (I think) 5 points to spare. Thoughts?

As long as you avoid using a RoW at this point limit, then yes.

I know a lot of people disagree WRT to points wasted on Havoc launcher, but I like the upgrade, and it looks snazzy on the model.

I honestly have never played AoD at less than 2000pts. I find the units, ROWs and Legion rules miss out on a lot at such a low point cost.

I like the havoc launcher too. It performed well in my game against orks not long ago. I have, however, decided to drop the contemptor and use the points for a third 10-man tac squad kitted out the same as the other 2 (I had to swap the refractor field on the centurion and replace it with a combat shield to save 5 points though).
