Hi,
Did you use / fight against a LR spearhead ?
I guess it is a difficul formation to use (not everyone has 3 LR^^), but there must be at least one Dakkanaut who used it.
I know it isn't a super formation, but, without playing very very competitvely, I think it can be useful !
Any review ?
Thanks !

I tried it once in a 2500 point game. I didn't wind up bringing enough others firepower, but it was much more of a casual game.

My friend loves Land Raider's, and Termies.

I play Orkz.

He has played the Spearhead often, we have found, in many games, that it lacks the offensive dice to compete in malestrom, and tournament brewed malestrom scenario's. To a point, that it is often strategic to ignore them. I have to admit, he has made me feel foolish in some Eternal War scenario's that are won with late game survivability in the last turn of the game, and often times, you have to deal with them in those types of games.

Even with a perk to ignore all results on a vehicle damage table other then destroyed results, they are still assumed to cost too much for a vehicle that, like most vehicles, can be shot at, pen'd once, and destroyed. (Much too often infact.)

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

In my opinion, Land Raiders should ignore penetrating hits...

I've used it with my salamanders. Its a pretty awesome formation. Getting to ignore everything on the damage chart but explosions is great. Kind of gives you a dozer blade. When I played it I was using a battle demi company. Put a tactical squad in a Landraider and another in a redeemer. Then I put Vulkin, chaplain, and some assault centurions in a crusader. (My 3rd tactical squad was in a drop pod.)

Armies:
The Iron Waagh: 10,000+ 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-7-1
Salamanders: 5,000 8th Edition Tournament Record: 4-2
Ultramarines: 4,000
Armored Battle Company (DKoK): 4000
Elysians: 500
Khorne Daemons: 2500

It's possibly the worst formation in the game. Consdiering LR are the worst unit in the game being required to bring 3 of them without actually fixing their key weakness (being 1 shot by a 10 point melta gun). I want to like it but it's not even playable in a casual setting IMO.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Ive played a tanks only game at 3k points with me using ig. What i found was that against anything not melta at half rang or armor bane at range had just wasnt going to take out those lr. they need the ignors everything less than an explodes or a -1 to the damage chart to be worth the points.

I played it and it did really well. Does it twin link the LRs weapons? I was tau/dark angels and had to ignore them cause i couldnt kill it. Their guns did ALOT of work due to twinlink. He kinda sucked getting objectives cause they have tonstay 6". For kill points its good possibly great!

The formation doesn’t grant TL, but most of the weapon mounts on LRs are already TL’d. Of the classic 3 in the main book (LR, LRC, LRR) only the Redeemer’s flame cannons are not naturally twin linked. Not counting any pintle SB/MM, or HK’s you add on.

I used it twice in an 1850 point game each time. It is fun and makes them surprisingly durable. They aren't going to stand up to a dedicated anti-tank unit, of course, but that really isn't the point of the formation.

As for making land raiders worth their points, I think all land raiders (chaos marines included - they should also be able to take modified land raiders with sonic weapons, etc.) should come with ceramite plating standard.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love
