Hi everyone !
Been playing around a it with the Mechanicus, both as a Convocation and as a more "standard" army.
Did quite well with both in tournaments - ending in the top 10 on all outings.
So far I've been playing with Kastellans, but I feel their points can be better spent elsewhere.
Don't know where or how, yet. So your suggestions (& why) are more than welcome.
Here's the list I was currently thinking about (I only added the more important upgrades, as nearly everything is free anyway) :
War convocation :
> Dominus
> 3 Destroyers (heavy grav + cognis flamer)
> 3 Destroyers (heavy grav + cognis flamer)
> 3 Destroyers (heavy grav + phosphor)
> 5 Rangers (2 arquebus)
> 8 Vanguard (2 plasma calliver)
> dunecrawler (laser)
> 5 infiltrators (taser goads)
> 5 ruststalkers (chord claw)
> 2 Dragoons (lance + phosphor serpenta)
> Knight Crusader (missile pod + battle canon)
+ Ironstrider Cavaliers Formation
> Ballistarius (autocannon)
> Dragoon (radium jezzail)
> Dragoon (radium jezzail)
Jezails & arquebus "snipe", lances for added punch where needed, dunecrawler laser cause the icarus hasn't hit a single thing in 6 games.
Changed my regular Knight Warden into a Crusader.
Thoughts anyone?
Personally i'd love more dragoons/ballistarii, but I can't seem to find the points to do so

How do you have 2 of that armorbane sniper rifle with five rangers? Its one special for every five. And the same for two plasma culiver with eight vanguard?

Is there a new faq/errata out?
This is what the codex states :
One Skitarii Ranger may carry one of the following:
- Enhanced data-tether…5 pts
- Omnispex…10 pts
Up to two other Skitarii Rangers may replace their galvanic rifles with one item from the Special Weapons list.
If the squad numbers ten models, one additional Skitarii Ranger may replace his galvanic rifle with one item from the Special Weapons list.
So 2 specials/heavy in a 5 man squad = very much legit it seems

Dragoonns are okay. Sniper dragoons work well when there's a few of them. They could do some major damage to an MC. That 6 to wound is AP 2 and does two wounds rather than 1. Movement is good. the 5+ cover save is nice as well.

The "conventional wisdom" says best 1850 War Convocation has two Imperial Knights, for what that's worth. Then squeezing in utility units like Culexus assassin, Coteaz, and/or another Inquisitor with servo skulls.

@ Naaris : okay is fine.  would you suggest ditching the lance-dragoons for snipers ?
@axisofentropy : been pondering a 2nd knight too, but figured that I could get a lot more flexibility by taking a 3rd unit of destroyers and some more fast units.
Inquisitors and such do add valuable things, but I want to keep the army as cleanly mechanism as possible.

Well, it is if it is a purely competitive list or in a meta where two Knights will be tough to handle. Otherwise, maybe having more AdMech may be a good option.
