Getting in to the hobby properly now after buying loads of models when I was a teen and decided on making my bikes into a Ravenwing Army. I have most of the models required to make this list up other than the Grav-guns, Landspeeders and conversion parts for the HQ choices. I probably won’t be playing 1850 points at first but I figure I might as well get all the points together before I start playing which leaves me options to swap between units in lower points games. I’ve read lots of comments about Ravenwing armies on here but I would like some advice before I start buying more models. I have some general questions at the end from my own poor understanding of the game and appreciate all comments.

1st Ravenwing Strike Force
HQ Interrogator-chaplain: Space Marine Bike, Mace of Redemption 160pts
ELITES Ravenwing Command Squad +3 Black Knights: Ravenwing Company Banner, Ravenwing Grenade Launcher, Ravenwing Apothecary, Ravenwing Champion 295pts
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Bike Squad +2 Ravenwing Bikers: Grav-Gun x2 155pts
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Bike Squad +2 Ravenwing Bikers: Grav-Gun x2 155pts
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Attack Bike Squad + Attack Bike: Multi-Melta x2 110pts
2nd Ravenwing Strike Force
HQ Librarian: Space Marine Bike, Psyker (ML2), Conversion field 130pts
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Bike Squad +2 Ravenwing Bikers: Grav-Gun x2 155pts
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Bike Squad +2 Ravenwing Bikers: Grav-Gun x2 155pts
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Attack Bike: Multi-Melta 55pts
Ravenwing Attack Squad
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Attack Bike Squad + Attack Bike: Multi-Melta x2 110pts
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Land Speeder: Heavy Bolter 55pts (2HB)
Ravenwing Support Squad
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Land Speeder +2 Land Speeders: Typhoon Missile Launcher x3 225pts
FAST ATTACK Ravenwing Darkshroud 80pts
TOTAL = 1840pts

The idea is the 1st RWSF and RWAS come on from reserves and the 2nd RWSF and RWSS start on the table, with the Librarian to do some buffing somewhere.

First of all just want to clarify, is it legal to take 2 strike forces? Can you take as many formations as you want or is there a limit?

What to do with no objective secured units?

How should the RWAS work with the speeders weapons? Should I take shorter ranged weapons on the speeder because of the AB MM? (I have 15pts with no HB, so HB, HF or MM? or need to somehow find 5 pts for an AC)

In this list I have 5 AB and all of my formations are legal (I think), what is the most effective way to field them? Individually or in squads?

Should I give the Interrogator-Chaplain the 4++ save or keep it on the Librarian? (If I’m starting the Librarian on the table at the backfield and bringing the first Strike Force on from reserves which one needs it more?)

Firstly, welcome to Dakka!

An army can contain any number of detachments / formations in (almost) any combination. Your list is completely legal. An exception is that sometimes tournaments add their own restrictions (sometimes "max of 3 detachments", sometimes "no duplicates" etc.), but those vary greatly.

It will make it harder against some armies (notably space marines full battle companies - many small Ob.Sec. Units), but is not insurmountable - the enemy cannot hold an objective when they are dead, and you can use the casualty removal rules (i.e. "nearest model") to kill off models within 3" of the objective without having to wipe the unit out.

The bike unit gets a bonus if it targets the same target as the speeder. MM and HB have completely different prefered targets, so I'd either go Melta on the speeder (meaning the same prefered targets) or Typhoon (meaning a longer range, so you don't have to put the speeder at risk).

Tricky. There are pros and cons to each (in a squad if you need to jink the entire unit jinks. Individually you're likely to give up First Blood, etc.) so I'd suggest trying different configurations in games.

Absolutely leave it on the Librarian - the Chaplain already has a 4++ from his Rosarius, so it's a waste of points on him really.

Great! Thanks a lot for the advice, I guess I'll have to get the army together first and then play some games to get a feel for it, especially the attack bikes. With regards to the Chaplain I forgot about his Rosarius so the shield will stay on the librarian then.

This is not bad. Splitting into two Strike Forces to use Outflank is an interesting idea.

The Attack Squad could probably be folded into the Strike Forces to leverage the first-turn turbo-Jink.

And most of this forum will say to build as many Black Knights as you can. All those grav bikers are great at shooting, but they're terrible in melee. Also the grav-bike units can be in units of 3 or 4 that's fine.

Attack bikes should be in individual units. Don't worry about First Blood; if your opponent wants it he'll get it. Make him spend several units' shooting at a single model. Ravenwing Strike Force is about hitting hard on the second turn after they've turbo-boosted into position.

And since you've a 100% Dark Angel list, you can probably afford a second Darkshroud. After the first turn, the Support Squad Darkshroud wants to hang back 36"-48" away so it doesn't have to Jink.
