Subject: FFG Rogue Trader RPG - Astartes Pattern Bolter?

Just wanted to ask a question I've been curious about for a while. They list a Bolter in Rogue Trader and its stats as having a range of 90m, RoF as S/2/4, its Damage as 1d10+5 X, Pen as 4, clip as 24, and it weighs 7kg.
I'm fairly certain that they make mention of these being for 'standard' human variants, however. So the question is, out of curiosity, what would a sizably more massive Bolter's stats be? I can't help but think that they might blow away these stats for a standard human pattern Bolter such as this 7kg one above. Does anyone know (since I think FFG Deathwatch stats don't directly translate to Rogue Trader's stats)?

It isn't "fluff" - it's lore. |

Black Crusade, which uses a slightly revised system from Dark Heresy/Rogue Trader/Deathwatch, has profiles for both normal and legion bolters.
Normal Bolter: 100m, S/3/-, 1d10+5X, Pen 4, Clip 24, Rld Full, Tearing, 7.5kg, Very Rare
Legion Bolter: 100m, S/3/-, 1d10+9X, Pen 4, Clip 24, Rld Full, Tearing, 10kg, Extremely Rare
Legion weapons have penalties when used by a non-Space Marine - they count as a weapon class higher (so Legion Pistols become Basic weapons, Legion Basic weapons become Heavy, Heavy stays as Heavy), 1h Legion melee weapons count as 2h and 2h Legion melee weapons can't be wielded at all. You also take an additional -20 penalty to attack rolls unless you have at least Unnatural Strength (4).

So what you guys are saying is that they're basically two times as powerful, weigh +50% as much, and are a lot harder to get one's hands on.
Yeah I absolutely love this, AND the special considerations in the rules you noted, Goon.
...yeah I'm loving this a lot, thank you guys Does Black Crusade the book actually have this sort of thing in better detail than Deathwatch does? (I'd be a bit surprised if it were so)
...and since when does Deathwatch stats directly translate into Rogue Trader? ...what other series' stats do that? @.@

all of em, save for some mild differances you can convert back and forth pretty easily. Black crusade and Only war are a little more heavily modified, but by and large they convert easily.
this is handy given the black crusades lack of any vehicle rules,

Why the surprise? Deathwatch is explicitly a game about playing over-powered Marines curbstomping things with no real ties to the fluff about Astartes power levels.
What's more, Deathwatch has no real support for non-Marine characters, so there's no reason for it to cover the differences between marine and human weapons.

I disagree with the "no real ties to the fluff about Astrates power levels" the rules just tend to lean more towards the higher power levels we see space marines having in the fluff, which tends to be inconsistant in the fluff.

You will find opinions varying. Locally, both in my circle of a dozen friends and the bigger gaming club, Deathwatch is praised as accurate (with pre-errata'd bolter) while Black Crusade is considered a disaster due to how much it nerfs everything that is not human to make the choice of player race more of an actual choice.
Seriously, BC is a cringefest of embarrassing writing with hilariously weak daemon princes (if it is not wearing PA a starting human character can very feasibly beat it in a fistfight) and CSM characters do not even get proper PA at all!
The CSM NPCs Deathwatch provides for your party to fight would SLAUGHTER the CSM PCs from Black Crusade. xD Automatically Appended Next Post: Furyou Miko wrote:What's more, Deathwatch has no real support for non-Marine characters, so there's no reason for it to cover the differences between marine and human weapons.
Except the human NPCs it provides and human followers you can take?

DW is written with "movie Marines" in mind. It's meant to be something akin to a grimdark "superhero" game than a serious military-style RPG, so just about everything in it for the PCs is very OTT and combat-focused.
It's the "Werewolf: The Apocalypse" of the 40K RPG series.
