Company of great wolf says you need elites instead of troops. Wulfen are elites so i can take them for that? Idea being wolf lord on thunderwolf krakenbone sword 2 units of TWC 2 units of wulfen

Then a cad with min grey hunters murderfang drop pod as hq then long fangs to fill out does this sound good?

Of course wulfen can be used. And in the cad I don't understand what your HQ will be, but all you need is 1 hq and 2 troops and you're legal.

GW said you can still use formations if you don't own the book but I'd check the tourney you're going to.

The twc and wulfen take up so many points.. Only downside would be having to challenge and then who do i use to babysit objectives other than long fangs really

Honestly it's one of the few reasons I bother building Wolf scouts. Slap a cloak on them and have 2-3 squads camp objectives and go to ground eternally. Your opponent may spend FAR too much time trying to break their iron grip on any decently placed objectives.

As for challenges, I never pay for the Wulfen leader as it's purely 1 extra attack and 1 leadership. The TWC Pack Leader however I like to slap a SS and Wolf Claw on him just for priority killing.

It's +1 A +1 Ld and a pair of Frost Claws. Well worth it.

What pm713 said. I've never regretted the 20 pt upgrade to a Pack Leader for my Wulfen.

I honestly disagree, though I tend to kit my Wulfen for total annihilation of whatever I throw at it. 3 TH/SS and 2 GFA + Frag launchers tends to thin, if not obliterate whatever is in my way.

Not saying your load out isn't good, but switching out one of the SS/TH guys for a leader would be the same points and be a better unit. You lose one model and you can fall back which can put you out of charging for another turn, and while that one point of LD wont always make the difference as a free upgrade why wouldn't you take it. Now you might say that the third SS/.TH is more survivable than the leader but in my experience if they can get through 2 models with shields they 3rd isn't going to help much. Then if you get charged with only axes and TH/SS you don't get to attack until you die or at I1 where as the leader can put out 5 attacks that can challenge and help thin out models so you I1 guys don't die.

Yeah, I never face ld checks personally. They eliminate what they charge, then likely distract with what turns they have left. Its all about getting them inti CC - then they just pwn.

GFA is amazing.
They are like a grenade.

Wolf Scouts tend to earn their points. Cloaks are WORTH IT.
But that's all the credit I can really give them... they're overpriced and antiquated. Playable? Yes.
But there's better ways to spend 100pts imo
