Ugh, I have had a few like this:
>Against my regular opponent. a 1.5K game and he brings a lot of Marines including a Libby Conclave and the triple Vindicator boom formation. Guess where the Conclaves invisibility went. Turn two and I manage to pop his razorback to reveal the Primarch Vulkan. I was not impressed.
>I had just started using Russ hulls in my IG army and my regular opponent was in a state of shock about them. Up until then he had just drowned me in Marine bodies but suddenly these new tanks had appeared. So anyway, he asked me for a "fun and fluffy" game of 40K where the only vehicles available where walkers and transports "because the streets of this city where too narrow". Given that he had been complaining about my tanks and had tried to ban them several times before, and that he had said it was not a competitive game.
So I turn up with an all Infantry themed list with some Sentinel support and he turns up with well: The Primarch Kurze, a Vindicaire, that close combat shreddy assassin and a triple Ironclad unit. Needless to say I conceded on turn four.
>Same opponent several months later, he ants a game and we agree to 2.5K points, and I agree not to bring my Shadowsword if he leaves the Primarchs at home. Not no LoW. I should have smelt a rat. He turns up with a full Deathguard list including a new Typhon, 10 man Flamer squad and Deathshroud.
I conceded turn three after my last unit was wiped out by the Deathshroud
>Another opponent, a Grey Knight player. At 2K his list consisted of that outflanking formation. I did not know this. I set up my IG gunline. I got rolled up by the grey Knights.
That said, it was a very fun game in some places with the best part being my Inquisitor duelling with a Dreadknight.
My regular opponent wants a 2-2.5K game against me at some point.
Unfortunately for him, I now know the 30K rules and his units points costs.

Pretty much every tyranid player in the past 2 years.
Can it have twin linked devourers? Then it is on the table. Toss in zoanthropes, maybe some of those shrouded buttholes, and spores. They are also the strangest players about terrain. It's like fighting slow tough eldar. I want nids to get a new book so they can go back to being a punchy army.
I havent seen a gaunt or warrior in a long time, not since the narrative game I played. He said he only brought them because it was a 3K game and he ran out of models.

I once ran a list in a 4 player game that was as follows :
Kairos Fateweaver
Lord of change
Great unclean one x2
Bloodthirster
Keeper of Secrets
Daemon prince of tzeentch
2x pink horrors to fill points to 2500
Big guys were fully maxed with upgrades. It was actually a really close and fun game, at the end all I had left was my two great unclean ones, one of which was untouched and one had lost a wound. However when we started the game it was clear everyone thought I was being a cheese dog. After turn one however, it showed itself to be alot more balanced than it seemed against more varied forces, as I thought it would.
My group thinks unbound is okay. No one takes advantage of it in really ridiculous ways except perhaps me in this game.

Sadly he is my only regular 40K opponent. At the moment myself and some others at my club have him on a rotation. Next up is my friends turn and after that its me.

I have a pair of silly lists designed for 1000 pt games. I do always check with my opponents if they want to play an oddball game first:
Orks: Big Mek with Kustom Force Field and Finkin' Kap, Big Mek with da Fixer-Uppers, Mek, two min Grot units... and a Stompa
"Magnificent Seven": One Assassin Execution Force, one Harlequin Path of Heroes. Seven models total, but each one is a serious threat. This one can only reach 920 even when essentially maxed out.

About sums up my attitude when it comes to 7th edition armies.
the last gem I played against, 3 detachment limit 1850
Demi Company in Drop Pods (can't remember the full name)
Shadow Strike Kill Team
Skyhammer Annihilation Force
on a 4+ additional drop pods come in on turn 1, 7 out of 8 came in equaling ~92% of his army.
That was fun, I lasted 2 rounds

This was a list I came up with a couple weeks ago when playing a 750pt game:
Illuminor Szeras
5x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
5x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
C'Tan Shard of the Nightbringer
Monolith
I ended up deciding not to use it because I'm not a douche, but the point is, I could have.

Mine was a Flames of War moment, I built my Germans like my Steel Legion at the time all of them had half tracks... Turned out to be one of the cheesy/most competitive list at the time... (edit: My friends cut me slack and just laughed about it because it was pure accident)
Read through some of these post, the Steel Legion guy bring a armored company... Okay? He may of been a tread head. Nothing wrong with that. I'm very use to mech list or armored list. Most guys who have or are military tend to emulate what they use at there jobs.
Not the really moment but the oh my GOD what?! Playing a 3k vs 3k Apocalypse game I think in 5th? My best friend had a vortex grenade and threw it on my Baneblade. I had been deployed for most of 5th and we were just playing a fun game. I was shocked but my buddy never cheats or hoses so I just laughed and we continued on.
Man writing this post makes me miss my Steel Legion.

That's how I do Deathwatch.
Nothing but HQ's. It isn't terribly great (as I don't throw everyone on a bike) but that's not the point, is it?

No, the point is to somehow justify the fact that I’ve got more then 10 captains on the shelf...

A few months ago I finally got my 4000 point space wolf army fully painted and requested that I'd get to field it in full in our gaming club, where we usually play 3v2 or 2v2 due to limited table space. This weekend we got two new guys to join us and they brought a second table so I was allowed to field my wolves. Since I have a reputation for winning no one of our regulars wanted to play against me and it was decided that the two new players should face me with 2000 points each. Since they had been told that I bring on the cheese the two of them decided to fully humiliate me with their chaos and ork army.
My army consisted of blackmane's company with expensive grey hunter and blood claw squads, a few units of terminators, the rune priest formation, 5 thunderwolves with a wolf lord, a storm wolf, logan grimnar and a few more small units. So hardly something truly frightening.
The chaos army was 2 maxed out nurgle princes, a typhon, 20 bloodletters and 3 heldrakes. The ork army was the budget big mek stompa with a few meks inside equipped with the mega force field, burna boyz in trukks and an ungoddly biker deathstar with 5 bike nobs 6ish warbosses with assorted relics, zadsnark the rippa and a painboy. An army built only for tabling me, as they described it.
With a bit of luck and some awsomeness from my good old thunderhammer stormshield terminators who killed a deamon prince and the stompa I manage to kill of most of the enemy but at the cost of massive casualties so when the game ended turn 5 I had 2 drop pods and a razorback left alive, but I won the maelstrom game 17-2
It was however a truly boring game removing marine infantry by the handful from the typhon and heldrakes while I could barely scrach the opponent.

I played a 1000 point game where I brought over 100 Guardsmen to the table. My opponent had a pretty standard take all comers Chaos Marine list. He said on turn 1 there was no way he could fight that, and by gum he was right. I just FRFSRF'd my way across the table til there was nothing left. Felt like kind of a jerk, but it was at least a thematic list with my Valhallans.

Back in 5th edition, I was playing in a 2k point team tournament, 1k per player. I had a horde of Nids and my partner had a horde of Boyz, except for the Warriors in the Battlewagon. Our opponents were Blood Angels and Nids in spores and they were playing null deployment and decided not to change their strategy even upon seeing our army. Our team walled off our entire side of the table and they had no optimal place to drop things in and ended up coming in really piecemeal. Very short game....
