Hi all I am getting back into 40k after about ten years off. I decided to do something that I wanted to do years ago but did not have enough time or money by creating a Windrider host. Needless to say I am sick of painting jetbikes. I based all the bikes and grav tanks/flyers on spring bases (photos below). Including the wraithknight, wraithlord, and infantry there are only 19 models on foot. The only thing that I have waiting to be painted is one last wave serpent.

One of my converted shining spears showing off the spring base.

My converted autarch.

A wave serpent with the spring base shown.

You will notice that the spring bases blend into the background.

I put them on the spring bases to ensure that i do not have to worry about broken bases quite as much. They tend to bounce instead of break.
Hope you like.

Nice job. I always liked the look of the mottled blue scheme, and you did a great job pulling it off. Little odd to see the Saim-Hann serpents on a non-red paint job.

Love the springy bases. Flight stems are a major PITA, you way looks a lot better.

Just gorgeous, back in 4rth edition I always wanted to do a Saim-Hann army, never did but my goodness those are just beautiful.

I have to agree, I love the spring bases and something about not being on the big clear bases just makes them look that much better.

Interesting approach. I can appreciate the effort. I'm not a fan of the spring bases myself (would have preferred a simple black rod into a normal base). Definitely better than flight bases though.

That's a serious force you've assembled.

Thanks for the comps all. Done painting jetbikes atm as it appears 49 is my limit for interest.

When I started playing that symbol was for the Void Dragons (going back in the way back machine here) and did not have a color scheme. Personally I hate paint red so blue it was.

The springs evolved from a single black rod. I tried that approach years ago and ended up either bending the rod or breaking the plastic. This way I accept some movement and still support the model.
Again thanks for the comps.

They look great, and I can see why your sick of painting jetbikes! That is a massive host! Are we looking at 1850 points? More?
I also switched from the flyer bases a long time ago, no clue why but they are brittle. I go with the wire or even a large bolt and nut glued in if it is a large tank.
In any case, love the paint job, hope to see them in action.

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Thanks for the comps.
Last I added it up I could field just shy of 2500 points as modeled. That was including the unfinished wave serpent.
