Hey,

I've decided to build Skiitari as a secondary army. Nobody at my club plays them in force and I just want a casual army to bring to the club on off days.

Love the look and shooting quality of Skiitari Rangers and the tanks.

This is what I was thinking about building.

3x Onager Dunecrawler each with Phospher Blasters

3x Ranger Squad /w 3x Plasma Calivers Each

3x Ranger Squad /w 3x Arc Rifles Each

Gives me lots of ap2 and ap3 shooting and the ability to down vehicles. 1500 on the dot..

What do you think?

Also can someone explain to me why trans arq's are 25 points? at ap3 and 4+ to wound and only strng 4 plus armorbane they seem incredibly weak.

You're mostly paying for the range of the Arq.

Also switch out all the Rangers with Plasma into Vanguard with Plasma.

If you want plasma give them to Vanguard, Rangers are better off sitting in the back field holding an objective putting shots down range with the arquebus, they may be slightly overcast it but if you roll a six to wound they become AP2 and I have seen them pop light Vehicles before.

That would only require 18 boxes of troops to get the plasma for 6 units...

If you are planning to get Onagers for Phospher blast then I think Kastellan Robot Maniple with twinlinked Phospher Blast upgrades are better than 3x Onagers. Someone did the math in skitarri discussion.

Also robos are really good at CC as well.

I know robos are not skitarii but they are still Ad Mech.

I think the phospor blasters on the Onager might be the least competitive option. You said you weren't interested in being competitive, but your list could deal with a wider range of targets with neutron lasers and if you expect any flyers the icarus array is really good.

Agreed, I am planning on running a minimum of x3 Onagers, x2 with Neutron Lasers and the additional Cognis Stubber and x1 with the Iccarus array, maybe x2 in a squadron. Also plan on giving them all the Cognis Manipulator to give them a 4+ Invulnerable save when run in a triangle formation that ive seen utilized to great effectiveness.

Try to maintain a 2:1 ratio of Vanguard to Rangers. Despite what they look like at first glace, Vanguard do almost everything better than Rangers, except for long range work. And honestly, you're not going to be doing long range work with Skitarii.

Could one not use plasma guns from space marines or gaurd line on skittari? Could be a better choice then buying whole boxes of units just for the 1 gun

Those are the changes I'd give to your units, plus with Vanguard being cheaper you may be able to slap a Relic on one of those units.

From personal experience though I don't use Rangers that often, besides to camp an objective in a back corner, even then they usually just die to a template with ignores cover. Vanguard however are stupid powerful suicide squads that can drown units in wounds thanks to Rad poisoning.

I really think the Aquibas is one of the most over looked weapons. I loved them, for your objective campers I'd definitely take 3. I agree with the changes that were suggested.

They aren't overlooked at all (model being lovely and all). They're just mathematically bad at one shot. Were they two shots I'd rethink my stance.

They are the only long range option for infantry campers. They are ok in small numbers bevause they are a threat to even the heaviest of Tanks able to one shot a baneblade even if its unlikely.

The TAs are really hit-and-miss in my experience however as mentioned they really are the only choice if you are looking for your Rangers to sit back and hold objectives. At the same time however running naked squads of Rangers with an Omnispex not only makes them a lot cheaper but I have found them to be just as effective sitting back and holding objectives as they have a 30-inch range. I more often than not run them this way as I would rather invest special weapons into my Vanguard squads who will be for sure and range of almost everything my opponent brings to the table, however I will admit I plan on at least modeling enough for each of my Ranger squads to have x3 of them just because they look cool.
