Hi so heres my 2000 point Crimson Slaughter list, with allied Daemons. Its completely fun orientated, and fluffy, but i still want it to not get steamrolled. Available to swap out for the predators is one landraider, and the 3 terminators can be swapped for 1 default hellbrute. i also have a rhino
PRIMARY
Chaos lord-(140)
Prophet of the Voices (this makes him a possessed lord for those wondering), Mark of Nurgle, daemonheart (2+ armoursave and IWND)
Dark Apostle-(105)
power weapon, sigil
20 csm (270)
bolters
10 csm (140)
ccw and bolt pistols
9 possessed (234)
3 terminators (100)
3 axes, 1combi m,
3 orblits (228)
3 marks of n
predator (140)
lascannon sponsons, tl lascannon
predator (95)
autocannon, heavyB sponsons
ALLIES
Belakor the Dark Master (350)
wings, armour, mot, 2 mstry levels
20 bloodletters (200)
As for tactics i use the Bretheren of the dark Covenant formation, to give FNP to Possessed, the 20 man blob, and the 10 man unit )
Thanks for looking, any comments appreciated

First of, this list is illegal since your main Detachment does not have any troop choices, the troop choices from the Formation do not count.
But that aside - even in a friendly game you won't have much fun with this list for a lot of reasons;
- Your lord is basically unarmed (i.e. no Power weapon, no punch) and unprotected (Daemonheart does not give you any inv save - Prophet only in 1/3 of your rolls.
He will die Instantly in CC because he's not part of the Formation (and thus no FnP) - any Sergeant with a PF will knock him out.
- The Formation can work under specific circumstances, make it 2x10 (or 3x5) marines with Plasma/Melta's, give them MoN and you have cheap Plague marines (T5 MEQ with FnP)
use the possessed to protect your Apostle OR run them separately (i.e. 2x5 squads (gives you 5 for your main detachment as troops)
- For 2000 points you have not much on the board that feels threatening or scoring. 2x10 Bloodletters aren't really scary and they're your only scoring /objective secured unit
- I don't get Be'lakor in this army. Invisibility on a unmarked, CC space marine squad? It's a bit of a waste.
- The Formation only gets FnP in a 12" bubble around the Apostle - fitting 40+ models into a 12" bubble makes you susceptible to Pie plates - you'll be steamrolled of the
board.
- Your army tries to be both, menacing in shooting and an evil CC threat but achieves neither. Your possessed will be kited since you have to stay in the 12" bubble of the Apostle,
the 30 Marines will do nothing, any Strength 8+ weapon will terminate them, so no FnP.
Here's what i would do, using only the models you have available to you:
Obliterators (228pts) [Mark of Nurgle (18pts), 3x Obliterator (210pts)]
++ Chaos Space Marines: Codex (2012) (Formation Detachment) (565pts) ++
+ (No Category) +
Force Options (Supplement options here) [Crimson Slaughter]
+ Formation (565pts) +
Brethren of the Dark Covenant (565pts) ····Chaos Space Marines (105pts) [4x Chaos Marine with Boltgun (52pts), Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Plasma Gun (15pts)]
········Aspiring Champion (23pts) [Boltgun]
····Chaos Space Marines (105pts) [4x Chaos Marine with Boltgun (52pts), Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Plasma Gun (15pts)]
········Aspiring Champion (23pts) [Boltgun]
····Chaos Space Marines (105pts) [4x Chaos Marine with Boltgun (52pts), Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Plasma Gun (15pts)]
········Aspiring Champion (23pts) [Boltgun]
····Dark Apostle (120pts) [Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Power Maul]
····Possessed (130pts) [4x Possessed (104pts), Possessed Champion (26pts)]
It's still sub-optimal, but the formation feels a bit more useful. MSU Cheap-ish Plague marines are nothing your enemy will take on lightheartedly, compared
to the blobs of marines - maybe run 2x10 MoN marines. Be'Lakor does not have VotLW thus you can take him as WL for your Crimson Slaughter Main detachment.
Unless you're willing to spent huge piles of points on a single Crimson Slaughter IC this will probably be better. I usually give Predators Havoc Launchers because
they're so god damn awesome. And an additional weapon for a Weapon destroyed roll is always nice. You still have your possessed, but unless you wish them to
transport a choppy-killy IC with prophet of the voices into glorious bloodshed run them in smaller units. I run them most of the time in 5-man groups to get better
Slaves of the Voices rolls - if you roll a 5-6 on the Mutation table they'll become unbelievably tough (3+/3++ & rend) - if you wish to make them tougher give them
MoN or MoS & Icon of Excess - expensive but also very nice to have. With the list i made you still have points to spend.

Im still reading and processing, but i really had no idea about the formations, thanks for highlighting!!!!!!!!!!!
i also have 3 additional terminators. Oh and 20 plague marines; should i be using them instead of the mon units ?
So i followed all advice, except i missed the combi bolter (5pts) on the predator, and swapped the 3 terminators for 2 squads of 6 man plague marines with plasma guns. This brought me up to a total of 2002 points ? What do you think?

your msg was golddust, and must have taken you years to write!!! i think im deffo going to use the force you've suggested
No Problem, mate.
If you have Plague marines, use them in combination with a dirt-cheap and bare-bones Nurgle-Lord (i.e. Chaos Lord with MoN for 80 points. OR, because the list
i gave you had some points left, kit him out a bit. I guess you're using the Dark Vengeance starter box? If so, use this setup to make him WYSIWYG:
Chaos Lord, MoN, Boltpistol, Power Sword, The Slaughterer Horns, Daemonheart, Seal of Corruption - 165 Points. Makes him quite tough (T5, 2+/5++ with IWND))
Make this one or the Dirt-Cheap version your WL and you get the Plague Marines as Troops.
If you run the 80 point version, make sure he's safe all the time, if you run the slightly expensive one stick him into a 5-man Squad of Plague marines, use 2-3 Squads
of Plague marines as your Troop choice rather than the normal ones and you can kick the normal Marines out of your troop-choice. Plagues are still disgustingly tough.
I wouldn't change the Formation at all.
Make it something like this:
Force Options (Supplement options here) [Crimson Slaughter]
Hidden Units and Dataslates (Select first and once per roster) [Show Dataslate entries]
+ HQ (515pts) +
Be'lakor, The Dark Master (350pts)
Chaos Lord (165pts) [Daemonheart (30pts), Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Power Sword (15pts), Sigil of corruption (25pts), The Slaughterer’s Horns (15pts), Warlord]
Obliterators (228pts) [Mark of Nurgle (18pts), 3x Obliterator (210pts)]
++ Chaos Space Marines: Codex (2012) (Formation Detachment) (565pts) ++
+ (No Category) +
Force Options (Supplement options here) [Crimson Slaughter]
+ Formation (565pts) +
Brethren of the Dark Covenant (565pts) ····Chaos Space Marines (105pts) [4x Chaos Marine with Boltgun (52pts), Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Plasma Gun (15pts)]
········Aspiring Champion (23pts) [Boltgun]
····Chaos Space Marines (105pts) [4x Chaos Marine with Boltgun (52pts), Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Plasma Gun (15pts)]
········Aspiring Champion (23pts) [Boltgun]
····Chaos Space Marines (105pts) [4x Chaos Marine with Boltgun (52pts), Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Plasma Gun (15pts)]
········Aspiring Champion (23pts) [Boltgun]
····Dark Apostle (120pts) [Mark of Nurgle (15pts), Power Maul]
····Possessed (130pts) [4x Possessed (104pts), Possessed Champion (26pts)]
You still have some points to spend, 23 to be exact, or change something (maybe a 3rd group of Plague Marines) or run the
Cheap Lord version and give those Plague marines a Rhino with Havoc launcher. Your army will be slow - there's no fast
moving unit aside of the Possessed which can become Beast, so be careful to not charge them away from your army into
their doom. Use them to soak wounds and protect your Plague marines/the Formation. Do not play to aggressively with
Be'Lakor - he will be Priority #1 for the Enemy - use him wisely.
The OPs army list is not illegal, the CSMs and Possessed are both Troops choices in a Crimson Slaughter detachment, and he has 2 CSM squads already.
But I would say swap out the unit of 10 CSMs and the basic Predator for a Land Raider, and put the Lord and Possessed inside that. Dark Apostle could be fun running with a huge CSM unit; and Belakor could make the Shrouded and/or invisible to make it to somewhere.
Never use Helbrutes except in the Mayhem (or is it Murder?) Pack...the one where three can deepstrike and all suffer a Crazed result every turn or something. I've been trying them plain and normal and they just never ever do anything but die sadly. Blood Slaughterers on the other hand, amazing! Take two Brutes and make a wierd conversion with 4 legs and 2 fists like a centaur, voila!
