Doesn't look at all 40k model. More like WOW(no surprise since AOS style has went to same dime in a dozen style). Plus who said I have anybody playing 40k khorne either?
i don't play any game, so painting is the whole point of minis for me...
Works for you. I don't just paint to sit in some box. And I don't have enough room to keep every model visible so if I don't play they would sit in boxes which is pointless. Might just as well paint and then throw to bin then. But that's just waste of painting time. One could use that time to paint something I USE in game.
If model isn't used in game it's useless. And if I can't get rid of it without being more hassle than worth it then I bin them. Even if it's painted paid models. Been there done that. If I can't play anymore with them and nobody is willing to buy them for money that's worth the trouble(especially common in rarer games) then it's bin them or end up in home like this:
Spoiler:
That ain't fun to live at.
If it's not used it's not needed. If it's not needed it ain't going to be in my home. I already have too much stuff as it is. I don't need more.
i hope you at least enjoy the new magazine
Dunno. First magazine seems to have zero hobby content that would be useful for me so won't buy it. Maybe 2nd magazine will have something but if it's more AOS trash only or board games I don't have then pass until there's SOMETHING for 40k that's not just ads for latest releases.

I'm also angry, but at the ugly font and layout. I know that I stopped buying shorty before it looked like this
YEARS ago, but I'm still longing for the look of the late 90s and early 00s. At least with German WD.
Okay, I'm not actually angry and I dont throw away free minis while complaining.
Looking for a Skaven Doomwheel banner to repair my Nurgle knights.
@tneva82: yeah, it sounds like not buying the mag would be your best bet...
it's really not worth getting so worked up over
as a huge fan of minis, it just seems a real shame to me that you would have so little respect for them...
different strokes for different folks, i guess...
i don't know why you would think that collecting minis would lead to a messy hoarder house...
they fit nicely into boxes, that stack quite neatly besides, i don't keep my finished minis...
i sell them, and make a couple of hundred bucks each, so you can see why my attitude is different to yours...
i don't know anything about WoW, but i do like the look of the new AoS minis...
i don't have that Slaughterpriest yet, so i will be stoked when i get mine for free
like Mymearan's post that i quoted originally, i like the settings of all the GW games (even though i don't play them), so i will enjoy reading the new issue, and see how it has changed from the Weekly (which i felt was too slim) and Visions (which i really enjoyed)...
this is a hobby, meant to be fun, not rage inducing...
i hope you, at least, enjoy building your army
I think the problem White Dwarf is going to have is that it could becomes stale quite quickly. They have limited options to call upon to design new material so eventually you are going to fall into a rutt with it being AoS/40k battle reports/painting/Tale of Warlords version 2345. The advantage of the Paul Sawyer era WDs was that there was so much material to pull from their could always be something different because you had specialist games/WFB/40k/LotR (and note my hunch is that I don't think the Hobbit is going to get a huge coverage in the new WD because it is a bit too close to AoS as competition). For all of these they weren't as constrained in what they could do; so you could have generally interesting terrain articles that showed you how to build up from basic materials, but that could be applied across the different game systems. You're likely not going to get articles on how to design your own gaming board, or build your own Bretonnian chapel. As such if you aren't interested in one of either 40k/AoS then there's not going to be much to draw you for long if the articles and just rinse and repeat over and over.
The other thing I am concerned about that it is still only going to be a sales magazine as it was last time based on the Tale of Warlords article. One of the beauties of the original series was that there were no constraints to how they could build their lists, and IIRC there were conversions (and yes Paul Sawyer did indeed buy a bacon sandwich). You hence got to hear about there thought processes, why they were making certain choices etc. This time however they are being told what to buy and paint each time and every time which makes it 'feel' like more of a sale gimmick. I mean just look how many times they repeat "Start Collecting!" on the page it's at least 6 times excluding the box set images themselves. They also tell you twice that each set as least one hero and two units in the same darn section. Yes this is only one page but generally you advertise products by using one of your better pages.
So I am a bit wary that this new evolution of WD isn't quite going to live up to the hype.

C'mon guys, get over that bit. We're but days away from seeing if this is any good. Stow the hyperbolic anger.

This made me drop an entire hobnob biscuit in my cup of tea you bounder.
As for the Slaughterpriest, he looks like the ideal model for doing conversions on. He doesn't HAVE to be a Khorne model for AOS he could be anything you like with a bit of imagination and conversion work.
I think mines going to be a Death Cult Assassin for my Inquisitors.
Just a week to go now (and you can pre-order from tomorrow, too). We've shown you a couple of old favourites – the Battle Report and A Tale of Four Warlords – so time for something brand new, something you've never seen before – the Ultimate Guide, a brand-new feature with the Imperial Knights taking centre in September's issue. Old favourites, brand-new features, what more could you want?

"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
That is true and so many other magazines but there are ways to do that aren't quite so distracting. You can still advertise something without ramming it down peoples throats so they end up choking on it.
Just take the latest page - it's literally count the number of times they state "Imperial Knights", "Knights" or "knightly" when for the most part they are completely surplus to providing a good dialogue. English language works on linking sentences/paragraphs together and it can in the end be too distracting. It's almost like that GW think that the more times they mention something in any section the more likely you will buy it.
Unfortunately these last two pages remind me more of this:-

You're saying you can't find a place for that in 40K? The mini is incredible.
I have no need for this mini.
I will enjoy painting it anyway!
If you find no reason to buy Issue 1, then don't. There is no sense in trying to talk someone into buying something that doesn't fit their needs.
If you do buy it and don't like the mini, give it to your FLGS so they can use it for prize support at a tournament or something. Tossing it in the trash hurts me in the feels.
It's your money, do what you want with it.

Made sure to secure order the WD at the store because with that free model it will be gone gone gone so fast. Not a Chaos player but I'll find a use for him.

Seriously? It is an article about Knights. How dare they use the word Knight a lot! It is a bit grandiose, but that is the 40k style. My favourite content ever in white dwarf was the index astartes stuff (in which I am pretty sure they said the words 'space marine' a lot). This reminds me of that. If it is half as good as that I will be happy.
Edit. The word knightly is used twice. That is definitely far too much.

Well, I agree that the 4 Warlords article seems phishy. Let's see if they'll use conversions and not-flavour-of-the-month units or it'd get pretty boring.
I'm a bit spoiled in this regard, because besides the fat bloke there have been local versions of this in German WD and those were not phony or, uhm, corporate at all, featuring stuff like a female avatar of Khaine in high-heels and guardsmen ith suspiciously pointy hats and command staff member with a grinning mouth and antlers Using unusual units and conversions has a net benefit for sales I bet, even if someone was going cheapskate and turns Joe Tactical into a chapter master. You could sell him another tac squad for a command unit instead of no command or maybe an official captain mini.
If the ethos of "draw only existing models in their actual poses" carries in the hobby articles...well, the painting guides better be awesome.

I guess if it doesn't have guns it can't be 40K then.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

I'm not sure you really are getting what I am saying. It's about how you use the English language. It has the sound like a barking dog. Short sharp sentences that are linked together structurally rather than through using specific nouns (or similar adjectives and adverbs). The only time you generally repeat the same words is when you are trying to get a specific word across and then you only do it once or twice. If you continue doing it over and over then you do end up with a 'barking dog' effect and very similar to how young children use to be taught (not sure if its the same way now) i.e The dog sat on the mat; the dog ate the cat; the dog slept at night etc etc. Memory by repetition. Hence its not a natural way to speak and is therefore here being done deliberately to highlight those specific words. A good example is this paragraph I've just written. I only used the wording "English language" once (except just now to, as I said, reiterate the point) however you know the context and what it all refers to.
Does that make it any clearer?

A small town at the foothills of the beautiful Cascade Mountains
I've read a bunch of pages, but still have some questions:
1) Do subscribers get any additional bonus from those who just buy the issues one-off? I.E. - is there a special subscriber bonus gift?
2) Will I get all the free bonus items in the first four issues just be buying the store copies? I heard that the first four issues will have bonuses (miniatures, etc.). I'd rather not be locked in for a year. And the $10 discount is no longer around. If I can just buy them in the store (or order off the webpage), what is the drawback?
Thanks!

Buying in store is high risk as anything with a free mini is very likely to sell out fast,
the issue with the free AoS Stormcast was gone within minutes of most places opening
as far as I know this is no bonus subscription gift (other than it being cheaper than buying issue by issue),
and if you can actually get them in store you'll get everything that comes with each issue (although people shoplifting the stuff off a magazine cover is not unusual either)
buying single issues online usually comes with the problem of having to pay for postage too
The saving and getting it delivered to your home. The latter though was a quite disappointing affair with my former Visions sub, the mags were always late, about ~14 days. This may be a european problem and caused by GW's paranoia of early leaks. But in general they do not send out product early enough to arrive at the day of release or earlier as advertised on their webshop. Others may have made more positive experiences but except for the subscription I would never buy something again directly from GW that I want to get as early as possible.

I also believe that subscribers will receive the magazine a couple days early, but don't quote me on that.

Fortunately it never seemed to be a UK problem. As far as I'm aware, all of my Visions arrived on release day (my get out clause is that, due to work, I was quite often nowhere near home on release day).
I haven't bought white dwarf for years, but at £50 for a year the preorder was cheap enough to try.
These days, figure painter magazine has been my main read, so having a physical book will be something new again.
With the likes of epic and others coming out in the future, I think |'ll get my money's worth out of this years sub, I'm hoping for something like fat blokes white dwarf. That was still quite adverty even if some have a bit of a rose tinted view of it, but it had humour and that made all the difference. These last few years its all been a bit dry and taking itself far too seriously. That goes for the company too.

Looking forward to new WD from what GW social media/apps has given so far. Let's give it a chance, at least two issues, to see how it turns out, eh? From everything it sounds like it's not a product catalog without content.
