Just curious what people bring as allies to Astra Militarum? Still feels weird calling them that so Imperial Guard for those who prefer that.

I have been looking at bringing SoB as allies but then thinking about it Guard really lakes some melee punch so bringing something that fulfill the melee roll would be better. Anyone have any luck with BA or SW? Maybe some SM or DA Bikes? Just curious what other players are running.

What AM army do you usually play? What are its deficiencies?

This comes in at 745. Not really sure where to go to bump up to 1000 I'm thinking 2 wyverns would be a good start.

But short of spamming more vets not really sure where to go so was thinking adding an allied detachment to give me some close combat support.

I mostly just bring in an imperial knight however the new tempestus start collecting box is extremely useful as an allied detachment. Respawning ap3 melta vets with possibly a battle cannon respawning transport is huge. I mostly just do this because it feels and looks more like an IG army.

I agree about the knights. If you decide to, you can alternate your list with a renegade list, and still be able to take the knights as allies. Personally, I got an Acheron too, but that was as a trade, and the NiB cost can be prohibitive.
