The HMS Bounty is the Classic Movies Organized Play Month Three Prize for the Voyage Home. Fan might remember this movie as the one where Captain Kirk and his crew are on their way back to Earth with the resurrected Spock on board a Klingon B'Rel Bird of Prey they hijacked in Star Trek: The Search for Spock. A mysterious, alien probe has "attacked" Earth (where have we seen that storyline before?), and Mr. Spock has analyzed the signal from to determine that it's "speaking" to the whales of the Earth. Unfortunitly, the whales in the 23rd Century are extinct and Capt. Kirk comes up with a daring plan to sling shot around the sun and go back in time to "rescue" some whales and bring them back to the 23rd Century. OK, this wasn't the best movie in the Franchise, and had more comic relief moments then I would have liked. But without further ado...

There is no ship with this prize pack, it's only cards. Not a big deal for me, as I have like five B'rel's in my collection already. Now then! That Kirk is an awesome Captain, and at skill 8 as well. Adding time tokens to a crew upgrade instead of disables is a great move- you can time token several crew all in the same turn, run away for a couple turns, and gain them all back. For the first time, I'm happy to use Time Tokens. His other ability to discount crew is great for those ships that use a lot of crew to begin with, and in an "Open" play style would get rid of the out of faction penalty. Great captain.

Montgomery Scott could be a very powerful upgrade for ships looking for one more tech or weapon slot. And I really like his "at anytime" ability. Perform a red maneuver? Tap Scotty to get rid of the Aux Token before the Activation step.

Sulu seems a bit redundant if you have Scotty on board, but on other ships with a lot of red maneuvers, he could be a valuable card. I don't think he is as good as some of his other incarnations though.

Checkov could be the one "must have" crew card for every cloaking ship in the game. If his ability allows you to have shields up while cloaked, that could be a very, very powerful card. Granted, it's only two shields, but that's two shields and +4 evade dice while cloaked. Oh, and as written, there is nothing stopping you from using the ability on the next turn, and the next turn to possibly gain back ALL your shields. If the card works the way I think it works, then you could have a Defiant with the Fed Cloaking Device with all it's shields and +4 evade dice going into the initial joust. Or, better yet, how about a Scimitar with an Advanced Cloaking and Checkov? This could be a very scary combo...

Uhura is an interesting card. She triggers before the highest captain skill card in the combat phase, and has the potential to remove a lot of tokens. However, the text says "Each target ship must either discard a token....or place an aux token beside it". I hate to say it, but if I'm at range one, some serious stuff is gonna happen during this combat phase, and I'll probably eat an Aux Token to keep an evade or battlestations token. Scan token? Depends on if the ship is built around using a scan token. If she removed target locks, it would be much more powerful. But as is, she is a very situational card.

Finally, we come to the HMS Bounty. It's basically a Federation B'rel, so has all the fantastic maneuverability of that ship dial, and it has a rear arc. Only one weapon slot is easily overcome with the Arsenal card, Tactical Station card, or even the Scotty card that comes in this set. Type 8 Phaser Array is definitely going on this guy. Need a tech slot? Fed's got that coverted. The scary part? It can now scan or use Battle Stations. This is probably one of the best Federation ships in the game gaining all the strengths of the Federation (lots of crew slots) combined with the firepower of the Klingon Empire, and the maneuverability of the Defiant Class. In a ship or faction pure fleet, this is a MUST HAVE ship for Federation players. Wow, it's a great ship!

Chekov is not going to work the way you want. Once you flip the shields over you are out of cloak. Chekov is a save you card to give you 2 shields back, he pairs well with Scotty from the TOS Enterprise.

Sulu is a cheap alternative to Refit Scotty.

Uhura is pricy for what she does, and for a 5 point discard if I was playing a themed build I would go for the one from the TOS Enterprise first.

The Bounty isn't bad, but you CANNOT put Type 8 Phasers on it , your ship must have a primary weapon of 3 or less. The B'Rel has 4 attacks base, so no phaser upgrades for you. It's a decent ship for 22 points, having BS and cloak on the bar is good but there are other solid ships out there. What is nice is loading it up with Fed shield upgrades and cheat death. That way if they take you out through your cloak and BS combo you can come.back with 1 hull and 6 shields.

As for Kirk and Scotty I'll have to wait until I can see the cards to make a judgement.

Opps on the Type 8 Phasers. Thought it was hull, not attack value.

About the out of cloak thing- has that been WORF'ed? Because the cloak token is what gives you the cloak, not the shields. Is there something out there that says if you get any shields back at all during a turn, you lose the cloak token? During the action phase, you disable (flip over) all your shields and place a green Cloak Token on your ship base. The only way to lose that token is by attack or during the end phase, choose to not stay cloaked. I did find a line in the rulebook under cloaking. "during the end phase, if a ship still has a green cloak token (signifying that it did not attack), that ship's owner may choose to keep it's shields disabled in order to retain the Cloak Token". I was wrong with the idea that you could just keep cycling Chekov to keep bringing your shields back. But I'd argue for one turn, you could be cloaked and use Checkov to have two shields up at the same time, but during the end phase, you would lose the cloak. Unless you lose those two shields, then you will still have disabled shields... That's the way I look at it now.

Check out the link I posted above from WORF on Backup Sequencer that came with the Romulan Drone pack. It says if you flip the shields back over to blue you remove the cloak token and do not get the extra dice.

It looks like a nice prize pack, nothing game changing but useable. Might pick up another Chang's bird of prey model for it, assuming I get hold of one. Given how far behind we are with OP's locally it might be a few months before we get around to this.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Well, it seems like a neat prize ship. This will definitely drive the sales of Chang's bird of prey...

It really will. I tracked another one down at a local store as soon as I saw this OP series had Krug's BoP

I have the Gencon Cloaked Ships, so my HMS Bounty will be a translucent sparkly grey.

It would be awesome to get another B'Rel or Bird of Prey and paint it up in Federation colors. Or at least scribble "HMS Bounty" on the side of the fuselage.

I haven't been this excited about a new ship in a long time!
