This weekend my FLGS is running this mini competition that involves building, painting, and playing with any of the current Start Collecting! kits.
I was wondering what box I could get that would also benefit me outside of this comp. By that I mean: which of the armies that has a Start Collecting! box would go really well with my current force of Dark Angels? I was considering AM/IG but what do you guys think?

No idea what your current force of Dark Angels includes. IG/SM/Skitarii seem like they'd fit the most easily though.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

As a new comer to Skitarii, I feel they might be a good compliment. Though as Griddle said, IG would be good as well.

Both armies would likely help cover Marine army weakness in general which is usually not having enough boots on the ground. Skitarii and IG are both quite cheap point wise, though I feel Skitarii do a better job of ranged support (unless you bring IG tank support).

The Skitarii box is also really good value, imo. The Onagers are ridiculously awesome units, rangers and vanguard are great units in general and the Dominus is a pretty bulky HQ that you can actually use with the Skitarii (Instead of Cultmech) due to the included formation.

The Rangers in particular can provide decent ranged support with their 30 inch S4 Ap4 Rapid Fire stock rifles and can get around easily thanks to Move Through Cover. Solid anti infantry

Vanguard can be awesome running up the board with your Angels with their great S6 Haywire rifles (To be anti vehicle) and their Rad Carbines (more anti infantry and debuff effect). Getting them into CC isn't bad either since they debuff enemies further for doing so.

Onagers can really lay on the hurt from the backfield as well with various weapon loadouts that let them either be Anti Infantry, Anti Vehicle or Anti Flier. A rather good swiss army knife walker, letting you tailor to almost anything.

Just keep in mind that the newer Skitarii Formation inclued in the box is for 10 Rangers. The box also only comes with one of each special weapon. If you plan on augmenting your SM Army with multiple Sniper Rifles or other special weapons you will need to buy additional boxes.

I still think it is a great value, especially when you consider the price of the Skitarii models. Aside from the Tech Priest, having multiple Rangers/Vanguards and Onagers are good if you end up fielding a Skitarii Army.

Play Skitarii and admech and dominate with 30k weaponry.

Some have said they either get Rangers or vanguard listed on their sheet, though the FAQ says to use whichever the formation says. I'm surprised the formation doesn't just say either or, so you can build how you want.

None of the above. Just flush some money down the toilet and get the same end result, without having to go through all the effort of pretending that it's possible to build an entire new force in a weekend without ruining the models. "Competitions" like this are great for the store, but terrible for the customer. Don't reward them.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I would recommend skitarii, but ig is not bad either

Jesus christmas dude, tone down the vinegar.

I'd say go with the Imperial Guard. They'll make a fun ally force for your Dark Angels until you have them built up enough to play them on their own. Really you should go for whatever models you like the look of best though - Guard are just my favorite of the bunch.

I think Astra Militarum (IG) would always go well with Imperial forces. They can fill so many holes, provide inexpensive objective Secured units, and they have units with real firepower and bite that exceed their Space Marine counterparts. An example would be the Whirlwind vs. a Wyvern. No contest. The IG can give you AV 12 transports which it nice. they can get you access to a cheap extra Psyker dice in their command squad and so on.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.
