Sword-Wielding Bloodletter of Khorne

Hey guys I'm a newish player and would like some info.
I'm looking to run the Cult of Slaughter formation from the new Crimson slaughter book. So the dark apostle that is in the formation, does his abilities work while he is in a transport? The rule in the book say they have to be within 18 inches of the D.A. to get the Frenzied Horde and 9 inches to get other one. So can he be in a Rhino or a Landraider and still count as the 18 inches or 9 inches?
Second question, how does plasma guns work with preferred enemy. I looked at the "gets hot" rule in the rule book on (pg 164) i think and what it seems to me is that if I roll a 1 I can re-roll via the preferred enemy but if 1 again then it gets hot. "Rule: (Gets Hot and Re-Rolls) - If a model has the ability to re-roll its rolls To Hit (including because of bs6+ or the Twin linked special rule), a Wound is only suffered if the To Hit re-roll is also a 1; it may also re-roll Gets Hot results of a1 for weapons that do not roll To Hit."
Am I understanding it correctly?
Thanks in advance!

I can't help on the first question, as usually it says in the specific book if the power works from a transport and I do not own that book. It does talk about psychic powers and transports on page 82 second column, but I have no idea if that is what the guy uses. The IG codex specifically explains about orders from a transport. If there are no rules, and it simply says X inches, then it seems as long as models are X inches they gain the buff. I know, not worth much, but it is what I have.
You are correct on the plasma gun.

wow that's a really good thread thanks!
Just a little info, running my local GW store owner tomorrow at 1k points. He's running grey knights :( and i'm running crimson slaughter.
Basically my list contains this formation and a couple other decent units.
Dark Apostle w/ combi-bolter
4x 10 cultist w/ autogun (cult of slaughter formation)
Sorcerer w/ level 3 (telepathy, going for invis and shroud) spell familiar
7x chosen w/ 4 plasma guns, and 1 combi-plasma, Ravagers--(gives them preferred enemy)
Rhino w/ combi-bolter
Chaos Vindicator
Baledrake
Don't know how well this will work but I figured mass volleys from cultist along with ap2 from plasma along with the S10 pie plate, as long as I can hit something this game with it. Plus good old turkey since so cheap why not? hahaha

Just my opinion on what he might do (and this is not a secret). The vindicator, possessed or baledrake will be his first turn targets. He will try to teleport and destroy them on turn one, as he can melee the cultists and negate their massed firepower. How do you hidefrom that? No clue lol, that's terrain and who gets first turn...I like the plasma gun line to negate armies with good saves. Plasma guns are one of the all around best weapons to me. Ra[id fire, so close in can do real damage. High strength means it can wound anything, even most vehicles, and the AP not only destroys armor saves, but the +1 on vehicle chart means you can one shot up to armor 12. I know its not the win all, I just think it is very cost effective.
The most important thing? Have fun man! And let us know how you did!

Thanks buddy, yeah I've never run against GK before so I'm interested to see how it goes. First turn, the drake will be in reserve and comes on zooming, the vendi, yeah it's gonna get target pretty quick, but also the chosen with the sorc will probably start off in the Rhino. I know though he only runs a couple squads and he told me yesterday that offensive phy attacks don't really work against him since he gets a 4+ deny so I was like oh okay cool. I didn't know they teleported and crap but it is what it is, since I play Chaos SM I'm use to carrying a beating lol. I'll picture and post what went on afterwords for sure. My plan of attack is to hope we get short edges and I can move up and start doing a shooting retreat to get him with volume of dice and low AP weapons. Will it work? probably not. But I'm new and it will be fun

How are the Sorceror, Chosen, Vindicator, and Heldrake organized? Are they in a formation? Or is this an unbound army?

Originally I was going to do an unbound list but seeing this is actually CAD I'm gonna run the sorcerer with the chosen, the DA with one of the groups of cultist probably.
