I removed a big gob of dried paint from the cap, painted for a bit, and then closed it up. Next day the remainder had pretty much dried into a mass. I added water and will get some more life from it (Sybarite green).

Lesson learned? Do not remove dried gunk from cap? Anyone else experience this?

Did you close your paint pot? Just go get some acrylic thinner medium from local Hobby Lobby, add 5-8 drops and some water and let it work.

no you definitely want to remove the gunk periodically, but yeah check that it's closed for sure. Can't tell you how many times I've left them open accidentally :(

Remember you must remove guck from both the top (cap) and bottom (pot rim). Afterwards, it's important to make sure the paint pot snaps totally shut, both on the front side and the hinge side, in the same way a new paint pot closes. (the plastic top rim should be perfectly parallel all the way around to the bottom part of it).

When I clean out my pot rims, I remove the cap completely, and scrape it out with a sculpting tool.

If you don't remove the paint *completely* from the lid, it's possible that it closes worse after you do a partial cleaning than before.

Alternatively, buy paint that comes in containers that don't have this problem or purchase some empty dropper bottes and transfer. Saves you time and effort in the long run.

I suggest to just transfer paint into dropper bottles. That will help you avoid starring for comparison paint charts for hours and in the end not having the same color.

Never had this problem since switching to Vallejo. Used to happen to me all the time though.
