They do, however, have no psychic/anti-psychic stuff, so for that reason, I'd pick Grey Knights.

AS with other armies I'd say whatever gives them access to stuff they don't have.
Both SM and IG fit the bill in many ways, both provide armour, fliers and heavy firepower but in different ways.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

Imperium Assassins make good allies. Vindicares work great in tandem with rangers and arquebusses, Eversors combo well with ruststalker/infiltrators, Culexus shore up their lack of psychic defense, and Callidus...I guess they work okay.

All Imperial armies should have been in the same book. One book for the Humans, one book for the Xenos and one book for Chaos. But there's profit to be made.

I would think GK is good as Cult Mechanicus/Skitarii don't really have psychic stuff.
If you're looking for vehicles and heavy firepower, they already kinda have that but AM fits the bill pretty well. So does IK.

I think that would be a little hefty, but I do agree that all space marines should have been subsets of the Space Marine codex. There used to be a smaller addon for Catachan Jungle Fighters that you had to have the IG book to use back in the day. I still feel that was the best way to handle the subsets of essentially the same army.

My point was not to knock GW for cash grabbing, but to point out that Skitarii, Cult Mechanicus, and Imperial Knights were all designed to work together and therefore it is good to build your atmy around using those forces.

As a person that plays them, I feel like Skitarii and Cult Mechanicus were made to be played together. They were also meant to have a third part, and IK was shoehorned into that slot for fluff reasons. The IK book was written long before Skitarii and CM were much more than a vague idea at GW. IK don't really "fill a need" of the combined codexes. They just sort of stomp around being IK. They are very clearly designed as solo threats.
A better third book would have had either troop transports, or unique buildings. These are the Mechanicus after all. You'd expect them to build things, and either of those would both be fluffy and supplement the army very well.
