This may be a really dumb question, but can Dark Angels take Contemptor Dreadnoughts or Cataphractii Terminators? After picking up a copy of the Angels of Death supplement, it looks like only vanilla Marines can use those things, but I know I've seen Contemptors painted up in Deathwing colors on the internet before, hence the question. Of course, those may have been the Forge World version, which IIRC Dark Angels DO have access to. I have heard that DA can use the new psychic powers as well, so I'm a little confused about some of this stuff.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Nope. Everything in AOD is for Space Marines only, all formations, datasheets and powers carry the SM faction icon or clearly state that.

There is no access to any AOD features for the alternative marine flavour codices.

Wrong, psychic powers are for pretty much all space marine chapters including Dark Angels. Also Dark Angels get Mortis Contemptor Dreadnaughts via FW Imperial Armor books.

I painted a Relic contemptor up in Deathwing colours. I don't use the Deathwing rules for it though. I guess it's just one of those things you would have to agree with your opponent really.

As for Cataphractii, you could still field them as your run of the mill Deathwing, since the plastic kits are pretty flexible. I can't remember if Cataphractii have plasma cannons though.

All Space Marine Factions have access to the new psychic powers. This is covered by the Quick Reference Chart in the Adeptus Astartes Psychic Powers deck.

And the rules in Angels of Death contradict the card.

All Adeptus Astartes Factions have access to the Psychic Powers. Non SM psykers, however currently do not.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Exactly. Only SM units currently have permission to generate the new powers; no units from the special marine factions have any rule granting them permission - making access for their faction have no in-game use.

However, that is all a restatement of arguments we saw before on YMDC.

Back to the OPs question, you can certainly use these new models as proxy models for DA dreads or terminators, but there is no rule support for adding these datasheets to the DA codex.

Well, bummer. I guess I wasted my money on that book then (of course I may eventually start playing vanilla marines at some point). I could probably use the Contemptor as one of the relic ones from FW if I could come up with the rules.

In casual play you can always forge that narrative; I am sure most players wouldn't object to a first founding chapter like the DAs having the old suits and dreads.

Just use the DA special rules as chapter tactics. Certainly not "legal" but makes sense as a house rule.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
