When you suffer a critical hit does it count against your ships hull value as well? I just purchased the Force Awakens x-wing starter set and I'm trying to learn how to play correctly.

Yes. Your ship is destroyed when the total number of damage cards dealt to it, face up or face down, is equal to or greater than its hull value. The only difference between crits and normal hits is that the damage card (if any, remember that crits on shields just remove a token) from a crit is dealt face up instead of face down and you suffer the effect printed on the card.

Thanks, also if you fire threw another ship at your target does the defender get an extra defense dice for the obstruction?

No, intervening ships don't play any role in shooting unless they're touching the base of the attacker (in which case they can't be shot at by the ship which is touching them.)
Obstacles (asteroids or debris fields) are generally the only things that can obstruct an attack (although there is one upgrade that can make a large based ship count for obstruction.)

Poe Dameron

Esege Tiketu

Jake Farrell
-AWTP
-Cha Ref
-Vet Ins

The list is okay, although not sure the K-Wing is that great, I'd suggest something like;
• Poe Dameron, T-70 X-Wing, R5-P9, Veteran Instincts, Integrated Astromech
• Jake Farrell A-Wing, A-Wing Test Pilot, Proton Rockets, Veteran Instincts, Autothrusters , Push the Limit
• Garven Dreis, X-Wing, R2-D6 Veteran Instincts, Integrated Astromech
This comes to 96pts so there is tweak room
For Poe R5-P9 is pretty much the mech of choice, as with PS10 you should be able to arc dodge enough that you usually have a focus token left at end step, and Garven provides a safety net
The build of Jake is more or less the stock build, never underestimate his ability to slide into R1 and hand out a painful Procket punch
Garven is the weak link here, normally I'd suggest Wes Jansen but that requires buying the Transport, still a PS8 X-Wing that can hand off Focus is reasonable (note you can 'use' the Focus token even if you roll no Eyeballs)

Going back to the critical question: it's probably worth mentioning the Direct Hit card. So yeah, most critical hits count as one damage plus some other other effect with one exception: that card counts as two. Integrated Astromech is really good to have against that card.

Ya direct hit was what gave me pause at first.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Is there any way to get the Vet Ins card other then from the slave 1 or Falcon box sets? I would like to get one of each but buying a second just seems like a waist.

@Turnip Jedi:
If he's going to use R5-P9, then chances are he bought the transport anyway, so you might as well suggest Wes Janson.
However, as a beginner list, I quite like his first one. The K-Wing is a fun ship and Tuketu has nice synergy with Poe. Another option would be Kyle Katarn in his HWK. Not as tough, but handing out that focus token to either ships can make them nimbler and pack more punch.

Ebay or talk to friends.
Veteran Instincts (with an alternate, rebel pilot artwork) was/is a Game Night Kit participation prize earlier this year, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding someone with multiple 'spares'.

Yeah, the annoying aspect of this game's product strategy is the occasional desire for a card that is in a limited number of packages. In a casual game, proxies work fine. In a store-run tournament? They probably will insist you have legit copies.
The alt-art versions do help fight that issue, though. It looks like the alt-art Veteran's Instincts is pretty cheap on eBay and therefore not super high in demand, though, so there's good odds that if you can ask around locally you could find someone with spares.

that's one thing I'll give FFG credit for - they sometimes make a point of picking cards that are "buy an expansion only for this card" that have ended up becoming very common and made it a free participation prize at an event.
C-3PO is the big one, but Veteran Instincts, Gunner, and Recon Specialist are all very nice to have without buying their 'source' ships.

Yeah, I'm still surprised that they did C-3PO as a promo since they had to know he was making the Tantive sell.
Now, we just need them to do Palpatine.

Well, they did C-3PO, but only after a long delay. There probably weren't that many potential CR90 sales left to worry about by that point because everyone who was going to buy it for C-3PO already did.

Fair point, I'm fairly bad at remembering which Astros came from where, Upgrades and Ships easy, looky-a-likey robots not so much

Whilst the Integrated Astromech program appears to be a step forward, it's not really what it appears to be...
