Most of the time the captain will be dropping with the grav devastators to give them relentless, unless facing something that needs some serious punch and then I can put him with the meltas. Took the extra drop pod on the melta devastators cause I had some extra points and give me the option to drop an empty pod if worried about a beta strike, or all 3 sternguard squads for a heavy alpha strike.

I could be wrong, but im pretty sure relentless is based on the model, i is he rocking a banner that gives the unit relentless?

But good move on the Sternguard Drop pod, Could maybe look at dropping something to equip the rest of them with flamers.

The flamer melta combo is a good Swiss army knife kinda unit, does great things everywhere.

To many unpainted models to count.

Its actually slow and purposeful that is being conferred from the captain, which includes relentless. I will have to double check my rulebook when I get home, but I believe that confers to the unit.

Slow and purposeful works a bit differently then relentless

They cant run, or fire over watch, but the can move and fire as if standing still. They also can charge after fireing heavy, salvo, or ordinance weapons.

Relentless is the better version of slow and purposeful.

Unless it's on an independent character, then SnP becomes just MILES better. Here's the thing, I know you probably have limited drop pods in your collection but the sternhammer is most efficient as a null deploy full drop army focusing on the strength of twinlinked sternguard. And the skyhammer annihilation force

Here's what I would change:

Captain NEEDS shield eternal or he gets nuked by a single melta shots MANDATORY.
All 3 Tac squads go 5man melta combi-melta in pods
drop the bikes for something cheaper doesn't matter what
Give the devs 3 grav cannons and a multimetlta, drop the second dev squad
Drop the sternguard down to 5 men each and drop the combi-meltas
Bring a skyhammer annhilation with HBs and assault squads with melta bomb eviscerator

The combination of the 1st companies leadership shenanigans plus the pinning of the HB devs + the bonuses the assault marines get against those squads + 15 SnP grav shots + all of that being 7 pods + 2 skyhammer pods means so 6 com pods come down turn 1 is a huge alpha strike. You have enough raw shots to shred through any infantry list, enough melta to pop transports and enough grav to make WKs functionally irrelevant. Even demons who ignore leadership stuff get shredded by the sheer volume of medium strength shots coming out.

As a Daemons player I would aree that that much Sternguard special ammunition and 8 heavy bolters dropping in my lines would be a cause for concern.

Thanks for the feedback!

As far as the skyhammer goes, I have actually used a very similar loadout in previous versions of my list and found that after the initial drop, the are severely out maneuvered, and the grav gets left in the dust. That is part of the reason I left the battle company in rhinos. I may try and squeeze in a small skyhammer for the pinning/first turn charge, but not sure about going all out drop pod.

Also, glad to hear that daemons will be afraid of the sternguard. Daemons seem to be ever more popular these days so good to know I can put some fear in them.
