Your allied tank commander may only ride in a Leman Russ, the Malcador or certain Lords of War choices, the Infernus is sadly not an option.

Hmm. I see the argument, but the rule actually reads "must be attached to an Auxilia Leman Russ tank (of any type), Malcador tank, Valdor Tank Destroyer, Baneblade, etc etc" There is no unit simply called a 'Malcador tank'. There are two Malcador units: the 'Malcador Heavy Tank' and the 'Malcador Infernus Special Weapons Tank'. Both have 'Tank' in the title, and 'tank' as their type. I read it that both of those could be described as a 'Malcador tank' Given that he CAN definitely ride in the Valdor, which is also a Malcador variant, I'd suggest that this is also the intention.

Then the entry would have clearly stated Malcador tank (of any type)..

But, by that definition, he can't go in any Malcador, as there's no unit called 'Malcador tank'.
You only have a Malcador Heavy Tank or a Malcador Special Weapons Tank.

On a complete side note, I recomend giving those malcadors siege armour (since as a super heavy they can go 12 and fire anyways) and a flare shield, that way you're not just bringing a slightly crappier leman russ with more hull points

Oh good point about siege armour - at 10pts that's a good buy. The flare shields is a little less good as it's more points and both those upgrades only affect the front. Malcadors are mostly sides!!!

true, but a flare shield makes you, what? front Armour 15? 2 of those next to each other, supported by either some actual russes on the side to just make a wall of AV: 15/14 would just be silly.

If you're trying for massed armour, I'd probably stick with Leman Russ - you can field a lot, lot more of them.
I'd certainly stick with auxilia pistols. Yes, you need '6's to hit, but with enough shots you'll do something every so often. It's not like it costs you anything!

That does sound quite good! Still, I'd need to find 70 points, so something would have to go. One squad of goons and lose some Sponson Lascannons from something? Maybe they get downgraded to auto cannon? Or is the Chemical Flamer necessary on the Infernus - I was assuming the Tank Commander would be used to give it IWND, but maybe it could be given something to account for the loss of Chemicals?

It's two Leman Russ for the cost of one Malcador. And one Leman Russ is about the same as a Dracosan. I'd definitely like a load of super heavies in this, though.
Good point about the Pistols - that's what I meant to do!!

Sadly the Auxilia Tank Commander can't ride in the Infernus. I would bring a Valdor.

Again, the rule refers to a 'Malcador tank'. The options available are:
MALCADOR Heavy TANK
MALCADOR Infernus Special Weapons TANK
Can't see where it only refers to the first of those. Either you can take both, or you can take neither.
Why a Valdor, though? I would have thought the Infernus was scarier, given the there is already a lot of AT in the list. Or maybe I should swap to the Valdor and repurpose some of the Malcadors and Russes to be template versions??
S10 2 shot laser seems nice, but maybe overpriced for what it actually does??

I vote for neither rather than both, if you interpret it that way, because neither the Malcador Heavy Tank nor the Malcador Infernus Special Weapons Tank is in the list. I don't know what a Malcador tank is but it is neither of those things!
The Valdor would be your go-to anti-superheavy gun. 2 BS4 STR 10 AP1 shots with Ordnance, Tank Hunters, and Shock Pulse will easily cripple enemy superheavies.

I would actually go further than that. I have to vote you can add the tank commander to either. For all the vehicles listed its using the most generic names for all the different tanks and if we are forced to read it so specifically as to eliminate the Infernus as a choice, imposing that level of specificity on the rest of the vehicles listed would eliminate all the options. There is no context to believe Malcador means one over the other so if we impose an expectation of specificity that doesn't otherwise exist there, there is no "Baneblade", only the "Auxilia Banblade Superheavy Battle Tank"... and we're erratically shifting our context as we read rather than expect consistency.

I second the leman Russ spam. I would go for demolisher's or auto cannon variant rather than vanquishers. BS3 is so crippling on that expensive a miniature.
Demolisher's remove a whole units and the sheer number of shots from 8 autocannon shots and 18 heavy bolters will ruin infantry.

Both the Malcador Heavy Tank and Malcador Infernus Special Weapons Tank are types of Malcador Tank, so either option is available.
Your bonkers interpretation is the same one Gwar used years ago to try and claim that the Sisters of Battle couldn't take a Leman Russ tank because their older codex said 'Leman Russ Tank' and the new IG book said 'Leman Russ Tank Squadron', the FAQ released shortly thereafter made it quite clear that was rubbish and that GW considered it as asinine as everyone else, except Gwar...
ArbitorIan, take whatever bloody Malcador you want until it's FAQd by GW. They've spend the last decade very pointedly making it clear they favor inclusive rather than exclusive in ambiguity of rules, so go ahead, by precedent of the company.
