Hey guys!

I just revived my old interest in WH40k after like 12 years. I found my old necron army and need advice on what I should upgrade it with to make it worth about 1k points.
Currently it adds up to 625pts and consists of the following units:

1x Overlord (res. orb and warschythe)
20x Warriors
4x Scarabs
4x Destroyers

I mainly play against my friend who has eldar so a bit specialized towards facing that faction would be preferable
As for now Im considering adding wraiths, they seem to be pretty decent units.

Thanks in advance!

If you got yourself a Triarch Stalker you could use the Retribution Phalanx formation which is really cool. When your warrior or scarab unit dies, they come back on the table

Ah, just started to look into the different formations and their benefits. Lets say i would add a triarch stalker to make a Retribution Phalanx formation aswell as adding Wraiths and a spyder for the canoptek harvest.
This gives me the following army:

]Ret. Phalanx:
1x Overlord (res. orb and warschythe) 125pts
2x10 Warriors 260pts
1x Triarch stalker 125pts

Canoptek harvest:
1x Spyder 50pts
3x Wraiths 120pts
4x Scarabs 80pts

4x Destroyers 160pts
=920pts

How does this look? Playable at all?

I don't think it's legal? I can't remember but I'm not sure if you can run just two formations? I don't have my rule book close by so I can't double check. To make it legal you would need a CAD which is a minimum of a lord and 2x5 immortals (cheapest way to get a CAD). Something like this would be legal:

CAD:
1x Lord
5x immortals
5x immortals
3x destroyers

Allied formation - Canoptek Harvest
1x spyder
3x wraiths w/ whip coils
3x scarabs

Allied formation - retribution phalanx
1x overlord
1x stalker w/ Heat Ray
4x scarab bases
10x Warriors

Total: 994

The phalanx is only 1 squad of Warriors, not two like in your list however you can just increase the single squad size to 20 anyway. You need to protect the overlord or else you will lose the benefit of the scarabs and Warriors coming back. Also protect your spyder as much as possible as it gives RP to the wraiths if it is within 6" of them, makes them a lot more durable.

Have fun!

Use your wraiths to tie up any scary stuff he has, they will last a while in combat and can get to combat quickly. Stick your stalker in the backline and use it to pop vehicles he has. The buff it gives is nice too so it can get focused too. Just throw the spawning scarabs and Warriors at anything that moves, you want them to die so don't be cautious with them.

This is totally fine under the current Battle-Forged rules. An army can be made up entirely of Formations if you'd like. However, the Destroyers need to be taken under a CAD or Destroyer Cult. To the original poster, Res Orbs got nerfed. They're a one-use item that allows you to re-roll failed RP for one turn. Not great for 25 points especially if you're a 5+ RP CAD. You would be much better off replacing it with a Phase Shifter for challenges.

Well there ya go, I just learned something . Another thing to note, you need scarabs in your ret phalanx. And you want a couple more than 3 bases so they can survive a bit longer before they go down.

Well if that's the case you could load up your overlord if you don't want to buy more models. Warscythe, phase shifter and a veil of darkness makes him much more survivable and choppy. I would add a gloom prism if your going to be up against eldar, it would work pretty well in low points games such as this.

So if you didn't want to buy too many more models you could run something like this:

Retribution phalanx -
1x overlord w/ warscythe, VoD, phase shifter
1x stalker with Heat Ray
20x Warriors
6x scarab bases

Canoptek harvest -
1x spyder w/ TL PB, gloom prism
4x wraiths w/ coils
5x scarab bases

You'll probably find you won't use the phalanx rule as much with the higher squad numbers.

Hope this helps, have fun!
