Hey all, I'm a 40k player who's looking to expand into AoS. I'm looking at the matched play points, and am somewhat confused. I want to start a Savage Orcs/Grots army, but the points from the Handbook look like they are somewhat unclear. For instance, Spiderfang Grots are 100 points for 5-30 of them?? That seems like a super wide spread of models for the points, and if I'm interpreting it the way it seems, I could fit 240 Spiderfangs for 800 points, which seems bonkers. Can someone help me out?

So the way the GH does points for Matched Play is based around Unit Size. Using Spiderfang Grots, you need a minimal of 5 models and can max out at 30. Each set of 5 models is 100 points. So a 30 model unit is 600 points.

There are no points per model. So if you take 8 models you still pay the full 200 that you would pay for 10. Also you don't pay for upgrades like Leader, Standard and Musician models. You can technically have as many Standards and Musicians in a unit as you want.

The way it works is that the points listed next to it is the amount for the minimum sized unit. Rather than paying per model, you're forced to pay based per minimum unit size, even if you have less models than the base minimum. The max is just to tell you the limit.

So if you want 10 spiderfang grots, they'll cost 200. If you want a unit of 15 spiderfang grots but you only have 13 models you still have to pay the full cost of the base minimum and pay 300.

+1 this.

One important thing to note is that the unit sizes isn't neccessarily based on their minimum size in the warscroll. So it's important to check the Handbook for the correct unit size when you plan your amy. And as BomBom says above, always take as many upgrades a you can - they are free!

Want to play a balanced Age of Sigmar?

The Age of Sigmar Project Points Cost!
