So, they have one HUGE creature mount. Three different characters can make use of them (Runefather, Runeson, and Runesmiter. All the rest of them are foot sloggers. They are going to move very slow by comparison to their one mount. Seems like there is a hole in their ranks... some units similar to maybe Cold One Riders/Seraphon Saurus Knights. It seems like they missed a unit type in creating the Fyreslayers, or am I missing something?
Thanks

I think a lot of it has to deal with the fact that they're mercenaries and therefore are typically seen as more of an "allied" force rather than a really fleshed out faction. It also probably has to do with what GW is doing with most AoS sub-factions which has less to do with variety (stormcast aside) and more that fills up the quota of 1 Big Monster (ridden or otherwise), unit of 5 "elite" kit, unit of 10 "core" kit, and so on.

I agree with you. They have 6 Heroes - 1 monster (with 3 hero variants) and 3 infantry units. They could really do with something that fits either the warmachine, cavalry, monstrous infantry or monstrous cavalry. Hopefully they'll have more releases in the not too distant future.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

I think cavalry or monstrous infantry would be good. I'd imagine the dwarf warmachine kind of thing will be done by steamheads when they arrive.

I feel like they've intentionally been condemned to being a mini-faction, as the General's Handbook clearly shows they are absolutely ok with factions existing in a state where they cannot be run on their own.
That said, I suspect they're intended to also pair well with whatever the Duardin become. I mean, these are the thematic (at least aesthetically) descendants of Slayers, whereas most of the rest of Dwarves live on in the Dispossessed. I imagine many future Duardin units will embrace these guys by having buffs that effect say, "Dispossed" and "Fyreslayer" keywords.

I hope they don't end up forcing you to take fyreslayers to make duardin playable.

I meant the reverse... I expect Duardin to be a full/big faction, and Fyreslayers will just happen to work particularly well for them, despite being willing to work for anyone.

Between them and the new savage orks I think a model designer just likes making strange models in loincloths.

I play them solo Fyreslayers and over 40 games now and I've found a few things. If you opt to play Matched play the 3 units to 9 total hero/leader options is rough. But even with move 4 (Doomseeker a track star at 5 ) smiters on foot to tunnel units is huge. Remove the 20-30 vulkite unit from shooting target to anywhere in your movement phase 9" more away, horn re-roll one of those charge dice. Smiter taking a hero or Magmadroth across to puke and bleed magma on the enemy, also great.
It's rough going solo Fyreslayers since you lose magic, unbinding and other Order benefits but it's rewarding to me and I enjoy my games.
